Requirements and responsibilities

About the Role: - We are looking for a Senior Platform Infrastructure Engineer with 5–8 years of experience to own and scale the infrastructure that powers Spade's high-throughput enrichment platform. - You are someone who has been there and done that — you have built and scaled AWS infrastructure at a fast-moving startup, you know how to take an existing architecture to the next level, and you are equally comfortable standing up something new from scratch. - This is a high-ownership role where you will be building the roads that other engineers drive on — creating paved paths, reusable tooling, and observability primitives so product teams can ship and operate new products without reinventing infrastructure. - You will partner closely with an existing infrastructure engineer and a small, tight-knit engineering team that moves fast and ships constantly. Key Responsibilities: - Build and maintain highly scalable, reproducible AWS infrastructure (ECS/Fargate, Aurora Postgres, S3) that product engineers can self-serve on top of. - Design and implement developer tooling, service templates, and scaffolds that give engineers a clear paved path to spin up, monitor, and operate new products at scale. - Own and improve observability and monitoring systems — setting the standard for how teams instrument, alert on, and debug production services. - Build and upgrade internal frameworks for asynchronous and batch processing that other engineers build product functionality on top of. - Get hands dirty in Python and Django when needed — understanding the backend systems deeply enough to make informed infrastructure decisions and help scale the API layer. Requirements: Experience: - 5–12 years of experience as an Infrastructure Engineer, Platform Engineer, or Site Reliability Engineer (SRE). - Proven experience scaling AWS infrastructure at a VC-backed startup or rapidly scaling company. - Experience working at an API-based technology company. - Fintech or payments infrastructure background preferred. Technical Skills: - Deep AWS experience. - Hands-on proficiency with Python and experience scaling Django applications. - Strong experience with observability and monitoring systems, including OpenTelemetry and alerting frameworks. Preferred Background: - Experience operating in fast-paced startup environments with strong end-to-end ownership of infrastructure. - Ability to design scalable internal platforms and reusable infrastructure tooling. - Comfortable working closely with product engineering teams in a highly collaborative environment. Traits to Avoid: - Candidates with only large enterprise/big-tech experience and no demonstrated end-to-end infrastructure ownership. - Frequent job changes with multiple recent roles under 1.5 years. - Backgrounds limited to traditional banks or non-technical product companies. Compensation & Benefits: - Salary: $200,000 – $220,000. - Competitive equity package. - Flexible hybrid work policy (minimum 2 days per week in-office preferred). - Office location: Chelsea/Flatiron, New York City. Visa & Work Authorization: - Visa sponsorship is not available. - Existing work authorization is highly preferred. - Can transfer existing H-1B and TN visas. - O-1 transfers also accepted. - No H-1B sponsorship or green card sponsorship available. - Location: New York, NY.
