Join Our Mission to Revolutionize Space Logistics! Explore every ocean in the solar system, collect and store the fluid, and sustain life in space. At Space Ocean we’re a cutting-edge space startup on a mission to push the boundaries of exploration and innovation to supply resources for humanity’s expansion into space, targeting near-Earth orbit by 2027 and beyond, including Mars. As we prepare to launch groundbreaking projects, we’re seeking a Robotics Engineer to lead technical excellence and drive the development of next-generation for satellite-based fluid transport missions. Role Overview We are seeking a Robotics Engineer to develop advanced robotic systems for satellite operations, including autonomous water transportation, robotic arms, and in-orbit servicing mechanisms. This role involves designing, simulating, and implementing robotic control systems, motion planning algorithms, and AI-driven autonomy for space applications. The ideal candidate has experience in robotics, mechatronics, embedded systems, and control algorithms. This position reports directly to the project technical lead. Key Responsibilities Robotic System Design & Development Design and develop robotic mechanisms for satellite-based water transport, docking, and payload handling. Implement kinematics, dynamics, and motion control algorithms for robotic subsystems. Work with actuators, sensors, and control electronics for space-qualified robotic systems. Autonomous Control & AI Integration Develop autonomous navigation and motion planning algorithms for robotic arms and free-flying systems. Implement computer vision and AI techniques for target recognition, obstacle avoidance, and docking procedures. Optimize real-time control loops and feedback mechanisms for robotic stability in microgravity environments. Embedded Systems & Software Development Work with embedded controllers (ARM, FPGA, DSPs) for real-time robotic control. Develop firmware and software for robotic subsystems using C++, ROS (Robot Operating System), and MATLAB/Simulink. Ensure fault tolerance and redundancy for mission-critical robotic functions. Simulation, Testing & Hardware Integration Conduct robotic simulations in Gazebo, V-REP, or custom physics-based environments. Perform hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing to validate robotic performance. Work with space-rated materials, actuators, and sensing technologies for integration into the satellite platform. Collaboration & Documentation Collaborate with aerospace engineers, embedded software developers, and mission control teams to integrate robotics with satellite systems. Generate technical documentation, design specifications, and test reports for robotic subsystems. Contribute to mission planning and execution strategies involving robotic payloads. What We're Looking For Education: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Robotics, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Experience: 3+ years in robotics system design, control algorithms, or mechatronic development. Programming Skills: Proficiency in C++, Python, MATLAB, ROS (Robot Operating System). Control & Motion Planning: Experience with kinematics, dynamics, PID control, and model predictive control (MPC). Embedded Systems: Experience with real-time firmware development (RTOS, Linux, VxWorks). Simulation & Testing: Hands-on experience with Gazebo, OpenCV, MoveIt, or similar robotic simulation tools. Nice-to-Have Experience with robotic systems for space applications (satellite servicing, space robotics, autonomous docking, etc.). Knowledge of microgravity dynamics and orbital mechanics affecting robotic operations in space. Experience with AI/ML techniques for robotics, including deep learning-based visual processing. Familiarity with radiation-hardened electronics and space-qualified robotic actuators. Why Join Us? Equity stake in a high-growth startup. Remote-friendly with flexible hours. Cutting-edge tech: Work with advanced tools and platforms. Impact: Directly contribute to missions that redefine space sustainability.
