Requirements and responsibilities

3 main requirements: Insurance Accounting, CPA, ASC 606 experience. This high-level position is designed to complement our finance leadership by focusing on technical accounting, statutory compliance (SAP), internal controls, and strategic alignment. The right candidate will not only have deep knowledge of GAAP and insurance-specific accounting principles but will also bring exceptional communication and follow-through, ensuring clarity, accountability, and strong cross-functional execution. Key Responsibilities * Technical accounting expertise: interpret and apply complex accounting standards (e.g., ASC 606), ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance. * Statutory accounting (insurance): ensure compliance with insurance industry-specific accounting principles and regulatory requirements, including preparation and filing of statutory financial statements. * Regulatory compliance: develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures that comply with GAAP, Statutory Accounting Principles, and other relevant standards. * Strategic financial planning: collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights that inform business strategies and decisions. * Process leadership and improvement: lead the design, documentation, and implementation of accounting process improvements, including system enhancements, automation initiatives, and internal control optimization. Work with cross-functional teams to identify inefficiencies and champion best practices that improve speed, accuracy, and transparency. * Cross-functional support and communication: manage project-level coordination with Legal, Compliance, and Operations. Support external audits, regulatory reviews, and walkthroughs by managing documentation, timelines, and stakeholder communication. * Cash planning and capital strategy: support the CFO in cash flow forecasting, liquidity planning, and capital sourcing efforts across multiple entities. This includes analyzing short- and long-term cash requirements, assisting with loan and credit facility documentation, and developing tools to monitor financial runway under various growth or stress scenarios. What we’re looking for * 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting or compliance roles, ideally within regulated industries like insurance or financial services. * CPA strongly preferred; strong understanding of both GAAP and SAP is essential. * Experience preparing for and managing audits, including communication with state insurance departments and external examiners. * Strong grasp of ASC 606 (revenue recognition) standards. * Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and collaborate across teams. * Excellent communication and follow-up skills; this is not optional. You must be someone who owns communication loops and thrives in collaborative environments. * High comfort level with process documentation, system mapping, and continuous improvement. * Advanced Excel and familiarity with modern accounting/reporting tools. * A desire to grow into a leadership role, with increasing responsibility for people, systems, and financial strategy.
