UAIC is seeking a Florida Specialty Underwriter to join its Underwriting team.Position Summary:The Florida Specialty Underwriter is responsible for reviewing new business, endorsements, renewals, and underwriting transactions to evaluate risk, ensure compliance with company guidelines, and support profitable underwriting decisions. This role requires strong knowledge of Florida property and casualty insurance, sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate professionally with agents, brokers, policyholders, and internal teams. This position is currently remote. Candidates must be able to work standard business hours, maintain a professional remote work environment, and meet productivity, quality, and confidentiality expectations.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesReview new business applications, endorsements, renewals, and related underwriting transactions to evaluate risk acceptability and policy eligibility.Analyze underwriting information, including loss history, audit results, policy documentation, inspection findings, and other supporting reports.Evaluate risks for compliance with company underwriting guidelines, policy provisions, and applicable regulatory requirements.Make sound underwriting decisions to accept, modify, price-adjust, reject, non-renew, or cancel policies based on risk assessment.Review discounts, credits, surcharges, exclusions, and other rating or policy factors for accuracy and compliance with company standards.Identify unclear, incomplete, or conflicting information and request additional documentation from agents, brokers, or other appropriate parties.Communicate underwriting decisions, documentation needs, and policy actions professionally and timely to agents, brokers, policyholders, and internal teams.Document underwriting decisions clearly, including the basis for approvals, rejections, cancellations, pricing changes, exclusions, or other policy actions.Initiate underwriting cancellations or insured-requested cancellations in accordance with company guidelines, policy terms, and applicable regulations.Conduct peer reviews in a professional, objective, and constructive manner to support accuracy, consistency, and compliance.Manage a high-volume workflow while maintaining quality, attention to detail, professionalism, and service standards.Required Qualifications:Florida 2-20 Property and Casualty General Lines License.3 or more years of experience in the Florida insurance industry preferred.Knowledge of underwriting guidelines, forms, procedures, regulations, coverages, and business processes.Preferred Qualifications:Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey underwriting decisions clearly and professionally.Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with strong attention to detail.Working knowledge of insurance forms, procedures, regulations, coverages, and business processes for assigned programs.Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Windows-based applications, internet research, and related business systems.Ability to exercise sound judgment, evaluate information objectively, and communicate recommendations or opinions with confidence.Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.Customer-focused approach with the ability to demonstrate professionalism, empathy, and responsiveness.Ability to participate in and respond to peer reviews in a professional, constructive, and collaborative manner.Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.Benefits:401(k) Retirement Savings Plan with employer match.Comprehensive Medical, Prescription Drug, Vision, and Dental InsurancePaid Time Off, Holidays, and Leave programs.Flexible spending accountsBasic Life Insurance and Voluntary Life/ADDVoluntary Short Term and Long-Term DisabilityUAIC is an Equal Opportunity Employer and is committed to the principle of equal employment opportunity for all employees.
