Job Summary:
The Data Governance Coordinator supports the Data Governance function in its work to make the data and reporting that flows through the Inspire Brands portfolio trustworthy, well documented, and accessible to the right people, including users at our six brands: Dunkin’, Arby’s, Sonic, Jimmy John’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, and Baskin Robbins. Data governance at Inspire is the day to day work of cataloging data assets, agreeing on definitions/business rules, certifying trusted sources and reports, monitoring quality, and making sure that access to data lines up with what each person should see based on their role and their relationship to the business. This role focuses on the operational side of that work. The Coordinator maintains the manages report and data subscriptions, and partners with the Security team on role level access. The Coordinator also owns row level access through the Ops Dashboard, maintains the matrix of report visibility across all positions and reports, and creates and maintains the employee groupings that drive row level security. The work directly impacts what Franchisees, members of the Support Center, and ICR (Inspire owned) restaurants can see, including the reports that appear in RAP for Franchisees. The role supports the rest of the data governance organization on day to day execution and helps keep governance practices consistent across brands and functions. Success is measured by the accuracy of access, the quality of the catalog, and the trust franchisees and internal users place in the data and reports they receive.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage report and data subscriptions across the BI environment, including new requests, changes, removals, and recurring audits of who is subscribed to what.
• Partner with the Security team on role level access, including new role requests, changes to existing roles, and periodic reviews of role membership.
• Ensures that row level access through the Ops Dashboard is working as expected, confirming that each user sees only the brands, regions, franchisees, and restaurants appropriate to their role.
• Maintain the matrix of report visibility across all positions and reports, including which roles see which reports and at what level of detail.
• Model and maintain employee groupings that drive row level security, including additions, removals, and reorganizations as the business changes.
• Maintain the set of reports that appear in RAP for Franchisees, including additions, removals, version changes, and routine validation that the right content is being delivered.
• Triage access and visibility requests from Franchisees, Support Center users, and ICR (Inspire owned) restaurants, and route or resolve each request based on policy.
• Document each access change, employee grouping, and visibility decision so the team has a clear, auditable record of what was changed, when, and why.
• Support the wider data governance organization on day to day execution, including helping with stewardship coordination, certification reviews, and policy follow up.
• Partner with the BI organization, brand teams, HR, and Operations to keep employee, position, and franchisee data accurate so that access and visibility stay correct.
• Stay current on Inspire data governance policies, on Alation features, and on the underlying systems (Power BI, Ops Dashboard, RAP) that drive what users can see and subscribe to.
• Screen, evaluate and relsove SNOW tickets related to report/Operations dashboard access.
• Collaborate with Bi team to ensure that dashboard curation in Alation is current for new, updated and retired workbooks
• Assist DG Director with data investigations including data defects, quality measures and remediation recommendations.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum: 4 year degree in Information Systems, Business, Analytics, Operations, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Preferred: Coursework, training, or certifications in data governance, data management, or data privacy (for example, CDMP, DAMA, or Alation training).
EXPERIENCE
• Minimum: 1+ years of experience in a data governance, BI operations, business operations, or analyst support role, with exposure to access and reporting workflows.
• Preferred: 3+ years of data governance or BI operations experience in a multi brand, retail, restaurant, or franchise setting, with hands on time in Alation, Power BI, or similar platforms.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
• Hands on familiarity with a data catalog tool (Alation preferred), including the day to day work of maintaining entries, glossary terms, and stewardship assignments.
• Working understanding of role level and row level security concepts, and how those are managed in tools like Power BI, an Ops Dashboard, or similar platforms.
• Comfort building and maintaining matrices, mappings, and lists that connect positions, employees, brands, and reports, often in spreadsheets or admin consoles.
• Strong Excel skills, including filtering, lookups, pivot tables, and the ability to reconcile two lists and find the differences.
• Working understanding of how franchisee, brand, and restaurant data is structured, and how that structure flows into who can see what in reporting.
• Strong attention to detail and a careful approach to access changes, given that small mistakes can expose data to the wrong audience.
• Ability to gather requirements from non technical stakeholders, including franchisees, restaurant operators, and Support Center users, and translate them into access and visibility decisions.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain access and visibility rules to people who do not work in data day to day.
• Comfortable juggling many small requests at once, prioritizing across brands and stakeholder groups, and following each request through to closure.
• Working familiarity with data privacy and access principles such as least privilege, separation of duties, and the importance of an audit trail.
• Fundamental knowledge of database platform concepts and working SQL query abilities with desire to expand competency.
• Meticulous attention to detail and strong critical thinking capabilities.
DECISION-MAKING
• Executes routine access, subscription, and visibility changes within the policies set by the Director of Data Governance and the Security team.
• Maintains the matrix of report visibility, employee groupings, and the set of reports surfaced in RAP for Franchisees, within the standards set by Data Governance leadership.
• Recommends improvements to access workflows, employee groupings, and visibility matrices to the Director of Data Governance.
• Decides when a request needs to be escalated rather than executed, including any change that touches sensitive data, financial reporting, or franchisee scope.
• Escalates exceptions, conflicts, and policy questions to the Director of Data Governance and to the Security team where appropriate.
