Responsibilities

Freelance Graphic Designer (Packaging Focus) Remote contract, project by project. Santa Cruz, CA company. About us 11th Hour Coffee is a specialty roaster and cafe group in Santa Cruz. Two brothers started it in 2017 with a cart at the farmers market and an espresso machine in a barn. Now it's two cafes, a roastery, a cocktail lounge, and a growing wholesale program. We design almost everything in house and we're at the point where we need a designer who's better at it than we are. The work Mostly packaging. We put out new coffee regularly, including a quarterly Artist Series where one artist takes over one coffee for one quarter. That means bag faces, labels, print and box work, and the occasional release where the packaging is the announcement. Outside of packaging, expect posters, merch graphics, menus, table cards, and web and email assets depending on what's happening that month. Who this is for You've designed things that got printed and you know what happens between the file and the press. Bleeds, dielines, spot colors, how a design holds up on a matte bag versus a screen. You can work inside a style that already exists. Ours is coral and cream, Keep on Truckin' for titles and Felt Tip Woman underneath, hand-drawn over slick. You'd get the full brand guide on day one. The job is building on that look and pushing it further, not redirecting it. You're responsive and easy to work with. Most projects here are small and move fast, and a designer who answers the same day is worth more to us than one with a longer resume. Packaging is the priority, but the more comfortable you are across print and digital, the more work there is. Terms Contract, remote, paid per project and scoped before anything starts. No spec work, no test projects we don't pay for.
