We are seeking a skilled Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our software development team. This role combines hands-on test automation with exploratory testing to help deliver reliable, high-quality software.
Initially, the role will be approximately 50% test automation development and 50% exploratory testing of individual product tickets. You will use Cypress and TypeScript to build and maintain automated UI and API tests, while also applying strong exploratory testing skills to identify risks, validate new functionality, and uncover issues that automated tests may not detect.
You will contribute to our existing quality and test automation strategy and will have meaningful opportunities to influence its direction as the product, team, and testing practice evolve.
Essential responsibilities
* Design, develop, and maintain automated UI and API tests using Cypress and TypeScript.
* Perform exploratory testing on individual product tickets, with an emphasis on understanding user workflows, edge cases, and technical risks.
* Work closely with software development teammates throughout the delivery lifecycle to build quality into new features.
* Help ensure appropriate test coverage across UI, API, functional, regression, and integration testing.
* Analyze test failures and defects, communicate quality risks clearly, and collaborate with the team to investigate and resolve issues.
* Participate in code reviews and provide feedback on testability, quality, and automation practices.
* Integrate and maintain automated tests within CI/CD workflows.
* Improve the reliability, maintainability, execution speed, and coverage of the automated test suite.
* Contribute ideas and practical improvements to the team’s quality and test automation strategy.
Required qualifications
* 3+ years of experience in software quality assurance, test automation, software development, or a related SDET role.
* Practical experience developing automated UI and API tests with Cypress.
* Proficiency with TypeScript or JavaScript.
* Strong exploratory testing, test design, and risk-assessment skills.
* Solid understanding of software testing principles, including functional, regression, integration, and API testing.
* Experience working on an Agile software delivery team.
* Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.
* Ability to work effectively with distributed, cross-functional teams.
Preferred qualifications
* Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitLab, or similar tools.
* Familiarity with cloud-hosted applications and platforms such as Azure or AWS.
* Experience with test reporting, test data management, and test-environment troubleshooting.
* Familiarity with mobile application testing.
* A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
