Clients choose GIST for our ability to distil complexity and convert insight into action.WHAT IS THE JOB?As an intern, you’ll play an active role in supporting our team’s ongoing research, analysis, and project delivery. Your responsibilities may include drafting background briefs, organising training programmes, collecting and synthesizing data, monitoring developments in regions of interest, and contributing to written reports and presentations. You will gain firsthand insight into the dynamics of peacebuilding and international development, while building practical skills and networks for your future career.WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?The ideal candidate would be able to demonstrate the following skills.RequiredCurrently enrolled in or have recently completed a masters or doctorate degree or apprenticeship (level 7 or above) inHistory, political science, international development, security studies, or a related fieldOREconomics, international development, statistics, data science, engineering or a related field with a quantitative and IT background.Strong research and analysis skills of qualitative informationORProven experience of quantitative analysis and statistical methods. Ability to perform estimations of relationships in data and predictive analysis using statistical and econometric techniques. Experience with one or several database or programming languages (Python, R, Stata, SQL/No-SQL or similar) Strong verbal and written communication skillsFluency in EnglishDesiredInitiative and problem-solving skillsA collaborative mentalitySolid attention to detailInquisitiveness and keenness to learnAn international outlookKnowledge of other languages, preferably Amharic, Oromo, Somali, or ArabicTHE PROCESSIf you’d like to find out about internship opportunities as they arise within our team, complete our application form which will tell us more about your skills and experience and what you are interested in.
