Part-Time Remote Accountant/Bookkeeper — Property Alpha. About Property Alpha. Property Alpha is a real estate investing platform that allows users to search U.S. properties by investment criteria (cap rate, CoC, monthly profit), run dynamic calculators, and track portfolios. Role Summary. We are hiring a part-time, remote, salaried Accountant/Bookkeeper to manage early-stage finance operations end-to-end: clean books, reliable closes, revenue recognition, cash management, and simple dashboards. Transaction volume is currently low; the ideal candidate is hands-on, systems-savvy, and willing to take on adjacent responsibilities that help a seed-stage SaaS run smoothly. * Time commitment: ~5 hours/week to start (may increase with growth). * Reports to: Founder/CEO. * Employment type: Part-time, salaried. Core Responsibilities. General Ledger & Close. * Establish and maintain the chart of accounts for a subscription/SaaS and potential services/licensing lines. * Manage monthly close (target: ≤5 business days) including reconciliations (bank, Stripe, payroll, benefits), accruals, prepaids, and fixed assets. * Prepare monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) with concise variance commentary. Revenue Operations & Recognition. * Reconcile Stripe payouts, fees, refunds, and chargebacks to the general ledger. * Set and document revenue recognition for subscriptions (ASC 606 basics, deferrals) and any pilots/white-label licenses. * Build MRR/ARR, net revenue retention, and churn reporting (simple and auditable). AP/AR & Cash. * Manage light accounts payable (vendor onboarding, W-9/W-8 collection, bill payment). * Manage light accounts receivable (issue invoices for non-Stripe revenue, collections where relevant). * Maintain a 13-week cash flow forecast; perform weekly cash reconciliation and runway update. Payroll & Compliance. * Coordinate payroll (e.g., Gusto/Deel), reimbursements, and state registrations as needed. * Review sales/use tax for SaaS footprint (monitor thresholds; coordinate filings if applicable). * Assist with 1099 year-end and basic support for CPA/tax preparation. Controls & Documentation. * Write simple SOPs such as close checklist, Stripe → GL tie-out, bill pay workflow, and access controls. * Implement light segregation of duties within the small team and vendor tools. Nice-to-Have, Given Our Stack. * Comfortable with spreadsheets (advanced formulas/pivots). * Basic SQL or willingness to query source data exports (backend is BigQuery; Finance primarily uses CSVs/exports). * Familiarity with unit economics for SaaS and marketplaces. Tooling You’ll Own/Influence. * Accounting: Xero (implementation needed). * Payments/Revenue Operations: Stripe. * AP/Spend: Bill.com/Ramp (or similar; recommend & implement as needed). * Payroll/HRIS: Gusto/Deel (recommend & implement as needed). * Data/Reporting: Google Sheets; optional BigQuery exports. Candidate Profile. * 3–7+ years in accounting/finance; experience at an early-stage SaaS or product-led startup strongly preferred. * Solid general ledger fundamentals, revenue recognition for subscriptions, and Stripe reconciliation experience. * Comfortable implementing tools and improving processes with minimal supervision. * Clear communicator capable of translating numbers into actionable insights for a product/data-driven team.
