The Role We’re seeking a Lead Commercial Interior Designer, a seasoned creative who can turn client goals into environments that inspire and perform. You’ll be responsible for translating vision into reality, from intake and concept development to product selection, finishes, and detailed layouts. You’ll collaborate with sales and leadership, present to clients, and help shape the future of how Tunnel Spaces designs by integrating AI, automation, and data-driven decision-making into every step of the process. This role is ideal for someone who: * Thinks like a designer, but operates like a builder. * Understands the commercial furniture industry deeply. * Believes that design psychology and technology are the next frontier of interior design. What you'll be doing Design & Concept Development * Lead the creative process from vision to execution. * Design complete commercial spaces, including furniture, décor, artwork, lighting, and accents. * Create cohesive environments aligned with brand identity, functionality, and emotional goals. * Develop 2D layouts and conceptual 3D models using CET Commercial Interiors, AutoCAD, or Revit. * Select finishes, fabrics, and furniture using manufacturer libraries, balancing design intent with budget. * Produce polished, proposal-ready presentations, renderings, and detailed quotes for client approval. Client Collaboration * Partner with the sales and leadership team to clarify project goals and design direction. * Confidently present design proposals, bridging creativity with practicality. * Help clients visualize both spatial and emotional outcomes through storytelling, visuals, and data. Innovation & Process Development * Collaborate with Tunnel’s software and AI team to enhance workflows through automation and data insights. * Use emerging AI tools to assist with finish matching, space planning, and visualization. * Build scalable templates, design standards, and internal systems to improve efficiency. * Contribute to Tunnel’s evolving product and material library. Decor, Psychology & Experience * Apply environmental psychology and evidence-based design principles to improve well-being and comfort. * Combine sensory design, color theory, and spatial strategy to create emotionally resonant environments. * Ensure each design decision balances aesthetics and measurable function. Who we’re looking for Must-Haves * 5+ years in commercial interior design, ideally with furniture dealerships, design firms, or manufacturers. * Deep understanding of commercial furniture systems, fabrics, finishes, and specification processes. * Proficient in CET Commercial Interiors (Configura) and familiar with AutoCAD, Revit, or SketchUp. * Experience with My Resource Library, Commercial Interiors Library (CIL), or similar platforms. * Strong presentation and communication skills — visual, verbal, and written. * Highly detail-oriented, organized, and self-driven. * Proven ability to manage projects from concept to completion independently. * Curiosity about AI, automation, and digital design tools. Bonus points if you have: * Experience in healthcare, behavioral health, or government design. * Knowledge of design psychology or evidence-based design. * Background in developing or managing product libraries, finish boards, or digital catalogs. * Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) for presentation layouts. How to Apply * Include your resume and portfolio. * Provide brief written answers (2–5 sentences each) to the questions provided.
