Requirements and responsibilities

Ready to shape the statements of work that define what we deliver—driving client strategy end-to-end, powering program execution with hands-on ESP fluency and daily AI leverage? 🚀 🧬 WHO WE ARE Vertex Communication Group is a B2B email marketing firm with 23 years of experience running complex, high-volume programs. We own the full stack: strategy, production, ESP and CRM management, data operations, deliverability, and reporting. Our deepest specialty is trade associations, professional societies, and membership organizations, and we also run programs for commercial and other B2B clients. In aggregate our programs reach more than 30 million members and subscribers. We are fully remote, deliberately lean, and genuinely invested in doing the work well. We are also running AI-assisted production workflows in production today, not as an experiment, and we are expanding that layer aggressively. Joining Vertex means your fingerprints are on the whole operation. You will not disappear into a department. You will matter to the company from week one. 🛠️ HOW WE WORK We are fully remote and we mean it. No performative face time, no all-hands for the sake of all-hands. You manage your own schedule across your programs. We judge output, not hours logged. Sustainable work is better work. We do not expect you to be available around the clock or to heroically cover for systemic gaps. We have built the team and the tooling so that coverage is planned, not panicked. You should be able to close your laptop at a reasonable hour most days and be present for the rest of your life. We are growing, so there will be busy stretches. But we are building a firm people want to stay at, not one that burns through talent. Travel is limited but real. Expect to gather with the team in person a few times a year, and occasionally to meet a client face to face. Most work is remote. ⏳ INITIAL RECRUITING PROCESS 1. Application through Torre: Create your profile, your genome, answer the screening questions and we will be able to check your matching score with the position. 2. Specialized Human Decision: Our external Talent Expert will review your application, your matching score and your profile alignment to provide you with an update within 72 business hours. 🧩 OUR INTERNAL RECRUITING PROCESS * 1st Round: Test Gorilla Assessments and Take-Home Project * 2nd Round: Four individual interviews with the Hiring Managers * 3rd Round: Two individual interviews with External Validators + Final conversation with Hiring Managers 🫆 THE ROLE You will own a portfolio of client programs end to end: the relationship, the strategy, the quality of what goes out, and what clients think about all of it. You will partner with our most senior client lead as a true peer, carry your own book, and report directly to the CEO. Most of your week is strategic and client-facing: running calls, building roadmaps, interpreting data, scoping new work, and writing briefs. You will also shape the statements of work that define what we deliver and how. Occasionally you will step into an ESP to troubleshoot, cover a teammate, or execute a send. That operational fluency is what makes your strategic judgment credible. We want someone who sees this as a real stake in a growing firm, not just a job. You will have visibility into how the business works and a real voice in how we evolve it. ⚙️ WHAT YOU WILL DO * Own your clients: Be the primary point of contact for your book, owning relationships, communication cadence, and program health. Run weekly calls, quarterly business reviews, and strategic planning sessions. Translate performance data into a clear story: what is working, what is not, and what to do next. Identify expansion opportunities and bring them to the conversation with a point of view, not just a question. * Drive the strategy: Build quarterly and annual roadmaps tied to each client's goals and audience strategy. Write production-ready briefs the team can execute against without chasing you for clarification. Plan experiments that actually move metrics, and direct producers with enough technical depth to be useful. Maintain a structured knowledge base for each client: segments, ESP configuration, content rules, and undocumented preferences. * Scope the work: Shape statements of work for new and expanded engagements: define deliverables, cadence, assumptions, and success criteria, and translate client needs into scope the team can deliver against. You inform the commercial inputs and draft the scope; final pricing and sign-off sit with the CEO and senior lead. * Be the technical backbone: Step into an ESP to troubleshoot, execute, or cover when needed. Infrequently, but real. Own platform relationships and escalations for clients on your platforms. Catch problems in a build before they reach a client, because you know what clean work looks like from the inside. * Use AI like you mean it: Use Vertex's AI tooling in your daily work: client prep, meeting synthesis, brief drafting, QA, and reporting. Become a power user of our internal AI project management system within your first 90 days, and help make it better. Document client knowledge in a structured form so the whole team gets smarter over time. * Help us grow: Drive expansion within your existing accounts by spotting real opportunities and closing them. Bring a growth mindset to how we operate. If you see a better way to do something, say so. Mentor producers and coordinators through the work itself. This is a senior individual-contributor role today, with the potential to grow into people management as the team expands. 🧠 WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE Must-have: * 3+ years in email marketing, including demonstrated ownership of client relationships or senior program management at an agency or a serious in-house program. * Deep, hands-on production experience in at least one major ESP (Salesforce Marketing Cloud, iPost, HubSpot, Klaviyo, Marketo, Braze, or Eloqua). You have built, configured, deployed, and troubleshot real programs. * Working exposure to at least one additional ESP. You can move between systems with confidence. * Comfortable reading HTML and CSS in email. You can spot and fix a simple rendering issue yourself. * Able to pull, interpret, and present ESP performance data independently. You know what the numbers mean. * Current, hands-on use of AI tools in your work, and genuine eagerness to go deeper. We will ask you to be specific, and we expect this to grow fast in the role. * Experience writing client-facing briefs, roadmaps, and strategy documents. * Experience scoping engagements or shaping statements of work, or the commercial judgment to grow into it quickly. * Strong, clear written communication and remote discipline across multiple active programs. * Attention to detail in everything. For example, if you have read this far, we would love for you to tell us in your video answer what 32,311 x 5,672 is. Nice-to-have: * Experience with iPost or Salesforce Marketing Cloud, two of our most common platforms. * AMPscript or SQL for dynamic content, personalization, or segmentation. * Background in B2B associations, membership organizations, or trade publishers. * Prior in-house email experience. People who have sat on the client side make great client leads. * Using AI tools for project management, file organization, or workflow, not just drafting. * Familiarity with Wrike, Monday.com, Fathom, or Notion. * Pre-sales technical scoping experience. 💎 WHAT WE OFFER * Compensation: $100,000 – $120,000 base (full-time equivalent), commensurate with experience, plus full benefits. * Annual bonus eligibility starts in year two alongside the rest of the senior team. * Type of Contract: W-2 employment, 100% remote. Full-time with full benefits from day one. * Health, Dental & Vision: Full employee health coverage paid by the company * Home office setup: Laptop, mouse, keyboard, monitor. * 401(k) with Company Contribution: Safe harbor plan with company contributions whether you contribute or not * Unlimited PTO: Take the time you need, when you need it * Fully Remote: Work from anywhere in the US, no return-to-office hidden agenda * Team Meet-Ups: Periodic in-person gatherings throughout the year to connect, plan, and have fun * Real Impact, Small Team: Your work is visible from day one and shapes how we operate ⏱️ HOW WE HIRE This is a full-time, salaried W-2 role with full benefits from day one. It is not a freelance gig or a contract-to-hire trial. Our process is built to confirm fit before an offer, not after: a recruiter screen, structured interviews with our team and outside evaluators, and a hands-on assessment. We want someone serious about growing with us, and we move as fast as the right fit allows. 🗓️ WHAT YOU’LL NEED * Availability: Full-time dedication from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Central (EST), Monday through Friday. * Work Setup: Access to reliable high-speed internet, and a dedicated quiet workspace suitable for focused work and client video calls.
