With 1.5M hours of runtime and 8 GWh of energy storage systems managed with HybridOS™, FlexGen provides field-tested software and services solutions that are trusted by the most technically and commercially demanding developers, utilities, government agencies, and industrial companies in the world.Position Description:The Business Development Director – Utilities is responsible for driving revenue growth by identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, and developing and executing strategic plans, as a key leader within FlexGen. Reporting directly to the Vice President – Commercial Development this individual is expected to work broadly and collaboratively across FlexGen to achieve innovative growth agenda to deliver energy storage solutions to large energy users. Specifically, this revenue-generating / quota carrying role will be a critical partner to product development, delivery, and customer success areas of the business. In addition, the director will work closely with software engineers, electrical engineers, and other internal teams to ensure appropriate and optimal deal structuring and project partnership exists.Major Job Responsibilities:Self-starter who will perform their own research, cold-calling, outreach, meeting setups, consultative sales cycle management, and account conversion in the Direct-to-Utility spaceCustomers and markets will include regulated/non-regulated Utilities, Munis, CCAs, and other non-Developer non-IPP entities in the USACultivate and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders. Existing relationships is a mustDevelop and execute business development strategies to achieve FlexGen’s revenue targets and market penetration goalsIdentify and analyze new business opportunities, including market trends, emerging technologies, and customer needsDevelop and deliver compelling sales presentations and proposals to potential clients, while working with internal teams to develop and submit winning proposalsNegotiate complex contracts and agreements with potential clients to secure business deals, while following industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscapesWork cross-functionally with FlexGen teams to ensure successful business development initiativesTravel to customers and project sites (~50+%)Position Requirements:Experience in business development with utility companies in the distributed energy space, with a strong track record of achieving sales targetsPlease provide a sterilized copy of your project list of contracted projects in this marketIn-depth understanding of the utility space and industry trendsUtilize AI-driven tools and workflows to streamline processes, automate tasks, and improve overall performanceExperience with electric power, renewable energy (solar, wind, and battery), industrial communication, or electrical serviceAbility to effectively communicate in a formal and informal setting, both internal and customer-relatedStrong conflict resolution and problem-solving skillsMinimum of BS degree in engineering or technical fieldMinimum of 5 years of working experience, with at least 2 years in sales or business developmentExposure to commercial energy negotiations, electricity market / resource planning analysis, and/or new market entry strategy preferredCustomer management experienceExposure to with power industry, battery storage, power converters, power system design and/or battery energy storage controlsHigh proficiency with Office, Excel, Power Point, and customer resource management programs (i.e. salesforce.com)FlexGen provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetics.
