Requirements and responsibilities

Kira is led by fintech veterans from Stanford, Dartmouth, and Wharton. Our CEO, Edrizio De La Cruz, is a former Y Combinator partner and founder of Arcus (acquired by Mastercard), and author of The Underdog Founder. We are building something fundamentally different: not another fintech UI — but core financial infrastructure. The Role: - We are hiring a Senior Banking Infrastructure Architect Engineer to design and build the systems that power Kira as a programmable bank. - This is not a feature team role. - You will define how money moves through the company and ensure it is always correct. What You'll Build: Core Banking Ledger: - You will design and own the system of record for money. - Double-entry ledger architecture. - Idempotent posting engine. - Multi-currency accounting (fiat + stablecoins). - Real-time reconciliation (banks, blockchains, payment rails). - Audit reconstruction & time-travel queries. - High-throughput, non-batch accounting engine. - Your responsibility: balances are never wrong — even under failure. Banking-as-a-Service Infrastructure: - You will build the orchestration layer connecting Kira to banks and payment rails. - Account lifecycle state machines. - Virtual account routing. - Payment ingestion & normalization. - Settlement orchestration (ACH, Fedwire, SWIFT, RTP, local rails). - Webhook reliability & replay systems. - Provider abstraction (failover, redundancy). - Goal: seamless banking infrastructure, abstracted from underlying providers. AI-Powered KYT Engine: - You will help build a real-time transaction monitoring system. - Behavioral risk scoring. - Streaming transaction classification. - Entity graph relationships. - Adaptive monitoring rules. - Alert triage automation. - Explainable outputs for compliance. - We are building a system that understands money flows — not just flags them. Responsibilities: - Architect financial systems with regulatory-grade correctness. - Define ledger invariants and reconciliation models. - Design failure modes and system guarantees. - Lead critical technical decisions. - Collaborate with compliance to encode regulatory logic. - Build internal tools for investigations and operations. - Mentor engineers and set infrastructure standards. - Write production code (hands-on role). Requirements: Experience: - 7+ years in backend or distributed systems. - Experience with financial or payment systems. - Built systems where correctness mattered more than uptime. - Comfortable owning architecture end-to-end. Strongly Preferred: - Ledger or accounting system design. - Payment integrations / banking rails. - Reconciliation pipelines. - Event-driven systems. - High-integrity data systems (immutability, auditability). - AML / transaction monitoring exposure. Technical Depth: - You should be comfortable with: - Consistency vs availability tradeoffs. - Idempotency & failure handling. - Exactly-once semantics (and its limitations). - Deterministic state machines. - Event sourcing vs relational models. - Monetary precision & rounding. - Concurrency and race conditions. - Stack matters less than judgment. Who This Is For: - This role is for engineers who: - Care deeply about correctness. - Have strong opinions on ledger design. - Obsess over edge cases and failure modes. - Have dealt with money mismatches before. - Want to build infrastructure others depend on. - This is not a CRUD/product role. What You'll Get: - Direct influence on core architecture. - Work on real financial infrastructure (not wrappers). - High autonomy. - Equity aligned with ownership. - Small, high-trust team. Compensation & Structure: - $65k – $100k USD base. - 0% – 1.0% equity (higher cash = lower equity). - $6k health stipend. - 2 weeks PTO. - Hours as needed (may include nights/weekends). Hiring Process: - We evaluate how you think: - Design a ledger. - Model failure cases. - Explain tradeoffs. - Walk through real financial scenarios.
