For our family the pursuit of gut health dates back to 1981, when Pat and Rita Mediratta opened three health food stores in Southern California. Soon after opening the stores they recognized a need in the market. Commonly used ingredients in Ayurvedic medicine, a holistic healing practice developed in India over 3000 years ago, were not being leveraged in the US. They got to work in the back room of the stores using Psyllium Husk, a dietary fiber long known for its healing properties, and developed Colon Cleanse. The product was an instant success! Colon Cleanse went on to help define the cleanse and detox category in the US, and continues to be a top seller for the company.
Today, Health Plus looks very different than it did 40 years ago. We no longer have retail stores and our expanded product line can be found in 1000’s of health food, grocery and drug stores nationwide.
