    The Autonomous Vertical Profiler at National Institute of Oceanography is an autonomous solution for monitoring water quality in oceans and other water bodies.It profiles the water column rapidly for variables like temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll etc.However, the present model has limitations in certain applications.An underwater Winch based system was proposed to tackle these limitations.A detailed study was made in the different aspects involved in the design and selection of the underwater winch.Novel models were proposed for further improvements of the system.
