About the RoleDonegal Insurance Group has an opening for a Commercial Lines Underwriter in our Small Business Underwriting Team. We are seeking an experienced commercial underwriter with a minimum of three (3) years of multi-line experience to join our team. This position is part of a high volume, fast-paced environment completing new business referrals that require quick response times to our agents.This position is open to remote candidates supporting our Mountain States/Southwest region and candidates would be expected to work within the Mountain Standard time zone (8:00am-4:30pm MDT) or (10:00am-6:30pm EST) if in the Eastern time zone. The ideal candidate must be able to manage relationships, overcome objections and possess strong communication, organizational and computer skills.Responsibilities and DutiesSelect, price and develop coverage terms for commercial lines accounts to achieve profitable underwriting results and assist with providing leadership, support and coaching for the underwriting functionReview new business applications to evaluate degree of risk involvedAccept or decline risks based on company’s underwriting policiesReview application for completenessContact agents for missing or incomplete informationUsing sound underwriting judgment and technical skills, and continued personal development to meet the company goals of quality and timelinessAssist agents on the processing of new business, renewals, policy changes and all other related transactionsInterpret insurance coverages for agents and insureds; answer telephone inquiries from agents and insureds regarding coverages and pricingMaintain and establish good working relationship with agents and communicate underwriting decisions to agents and insuredsReview and approval all policy changes submittedAssist other functions or departments with enhancing and developing existing products in order to enhance the underwriting processQualifications and Skills1 to 3 years of underwriting experience at a company or agency level; a minimum of 1 year of underwriting experience should be in the commercial lines sector of insuranceDemonstration of self-development through attainment of professional insurance designations, CPCU, ARM, PLU, etc.Bachelor’s Degree with a background in insurance or equivalent experienceStarting PayThe pay range for this position is $60,000 to $80,000 annually. The specific offer will vary based on an applicant's education, qualifications, professional experience, skills, abilities, and any applicable designations/certifications. The posted pay range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
