Requirements and responsibilities

Target ALS is looking for a remote, detail-oriented contractor to own the data ingestion coordination process, serving as the critical link between ALS research teams and the Target ALS Data Engine, powered by DNAstack. In this role, you will manage the full ingestion lifecycle, from receiving researcher metadata through executing data loads into the Data Engine and handing off to the Solutions team for production deployment. You will work closely with Target ALS and DNAstack’s Bioinformatics and Solutions teams, ensuring that research data reaches scientists quickly and reliably. Responsibilities: - Initiate each data ingestion cycle by coordinating with Target ALS and signaling when new data is ready for upload. - Receive, review, and manage metadata submissions from research teams ahead of each scheduled ingestion date. - Monitor data uploads to staging buckets. - Execute data ingestion into the Data Engine. - Review ingested data accuracy, completeness, and structural integrity before sign-off. - Coordinate with the DNAstack Solutions team once data is ready for the production promotion. - Maintain clear documentation and communication logs throughout each ingestion cycle to support traceability and handoffs. - Develop ETL scripts to strengthen data harmonization, QC, source file repair, versioning, provenance tracking, and overall pipeline efficiency and usability. Required Skills: - 2+ years experience coordinating data workflows, bioinformatics pipelines, or research data management processes. - Experience developing and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines. - Familiarity with cloud storage concepts, including staging and production bucket environments (e.g., Google Cloud Storage), as well as programming in Python, Bash, and SQL (PostgreSQL). - Strong organizational skills with a track record of managing multi-step deliverables against firm deadlines. - Clear, proactive communicator who is comfortable working cross-functionally, both internally and externally. - Meticulous attention to detail and experience performing data quality reviews and data harmonization. - Ability to work independently and manage deliverables with minimal oversight. - Master’s degree in computer science, neuroscience, or related area. Preferred Skills: - Experience working with genomics, neuroscience, or rare disease research data. - Background in clinical/research data standards. Why This Role Is Exciting: - Impact at scale: Your work will directly influence datasets used by national and international genomics networks. - Scientific discovery: Play a central operational role in a data pipeline that powers and accelerates ALS research and drug discovery. - Mission-driven: Contribute to finding effective treatments for ALS by enabling the era of precision medicine for this disease. - Team culture: Enjoy a collaborative, supportive, and enriching team culture. Hours and Compensation: - 10 - 20 hours/week, up to 60 hours a month. - $100 - 150/hour depending on level of experience.
