About the PositionThe Director, Data Analytics & Business Intelligence is a hands-on leader who owns the enterprise analytics and reporting function at FiscalNote. This is a player/coach role: you will personally build the models, pipelines, and dashboards that power decision-making across the company while also guiding a small, high-impact team. You work closely with our SLT and with product, engineering, sales, finance, and customer success to identify KPIs, surface insights before they're asked for, and deliver actionable analytics that improve operational efficiency, customer experience, and financial performance. You're equally comfortable writing complex SQL in Snowflake, building a dbt model from scratch, and presenting a board-level dashboard to the CFO. You've spent years working with Salesforce data and know its quirks, relationships, and edge cases well enough to build reliable models without hand-holding. You lead with craft and credibility: your team trusts you because you can do the work yourself, and your stakeholders trust you because you consistently deliver insights that actually change decisions. You're energized by ambiguity, allergic to stale data, and relentless about getting things right.What To Expect In This PositionPersonally build and maintain core dbt models used in reporting across finance, product, sales, and customer success — this is a hands-on, individual contributor expectation, not a delegated oneOwn and evolve FiscalNote's enterprise analytics and reporting infrastructure, serving as the authoritative source of truth for business performance dataProactively identify analytical gaps and build reporting solutions before stakeholders know to ask — surface insights, don't just respond to requestsProvide functional and technical leadership across core BI platforms including Snowflake, Databricks, dbt, Fivetran, Segment, Heap, Metabase, and StitchAct as direct technical admin and functional lead for Metabase and HeapBuild and maintain reporting infrastructure in Metabase, ensuring dashboards are accurate, performant, and accessible to stakeholdersDefine and maintain a self-serve analytics framework that empowers business teams to answer their own questions with confidencePrepare and deliver board- and investor-level data models and reporting for senior leadership (CFO, CEO, CRO)Support M&A due diligence for acquisitions and divestitures; lead data separation and migration efforts related to transactionsManage audit-related activities for in-scope data systems, including controls, documentation, and complianceDrive data governance and quality standards across all owned platformsCollaborate cross-functionally with sales, marketing, finance, operations, product, and engineering on data and analytics initiativesCoach and mentor junior analysts outside of direct reporting lineDrive AI/ML initiatives and automation efforts to improve analytical efficiency and scalabilityDevelop training programs to increase self-serve analytics adoption and proficiency across the businessManage system performance, scalability, security, and compliance across all owned platformsWhat Sets You Apart8+ years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or a related field, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead roleDemonstrated player/coach orientation — you are as productive as an individual contributor as you are as a team lead, and you take pride in bothAdvanced SQL skills with deep, hands-on experience querying and optimizing in Snowflake; you write complex, production-grade SQL without assistanceExtensive experience building data models from Salesforce data, including a strong understanding of Salesforce's object structure, relationships, and common data quality challengesHands-on experience building and maintaining dbt models in a production environmentProficiency with modern data stack tooling including Snowflake, Databricks, Fivetran, and SegmentExperience building and managing reporting in Metabase or comparable BI platforms; familiarity with ThoughtSpot or Sigma is a strong plusExposure to and working knowledge of NetSuite, Coupa, Zendesk, and Gong data structures and integrations (preferred)Track record of delivering executive-level analytics and reporting to C-suite stakeholdersProven ability to work with minimal direction — you identify what needs to be built, prioritize independently, and deliver without waiting to be askedStrong data governance mindset with experience establishing quality standards and documentation practicesExperience managing and scaling small, high-impact technical teamsStrong cross-functional leadership skills with the ability to influence without direct authorityExperience supporting M&A due diligence or system migrations in a corporate transaction context (preferred)Experience with SOX or similar audit and compliance frameworks for data systems (preferred)Experience driving AI/ML or intelligent automation initiatives within a business analytics context (preferred)Background in SaaS or technology companies with complex, multi-system data environmentsAbout FiscalNoteFiscalNote is a leader in policy and global intelligence.
