Requirements and responsibilities


We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper to join our finance team as an independent contractor. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with modern accounting software and digital payment platforms, with a strong foundation in US accounting principles and tax preparation. This role requires a high level of accuracy, technical proficiency, and the ability to manage multiple financial processes efficiently in a remote startup environment. Functions: Xero Accounting Software Management: - Maintain comprehensive financial records using Xero as the primary platform. - Accurate data entry and proper categorization of all financial transactions. - Optimize Xero workflows and customize settings to meet business requirements. - Perform daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations. - Manage AP and AR modules. - Configure and maintain a chart of accounts aligned with business operations. Stripe Payment Processing & Reconciliation: - Manage Stripe payment reconciliations (refunds, disputes). - Oversee billing operations and subscription management through Stripe. - Monitor and reconcile all digital payment transactions with accounting records. - Handle Stripe fees, refunds, chargebacks, and payment disputes. - Track recurring revenue and subscription metrics. Financial Reporting & Analysis: - Prepare and maintain accurate monthly P&L Statements. - Generate monthly Balance Sheets with supporting documentation. - Develop financial reports for management decision-making. - Analyze financial trends and provide insights on business performance. US Tax Preparation & Compliance: - Prepare US Tax Returns with attention to current regulations and deadlines. - Maintain supporting documentation for all tax-related transactions. - Ensure compliance with federal and state tax requirements. - Manage quarterly estimated tax payments and filings. - Stay current with tax law changes. Accounts Payable & Receivable Management: - Process vendor invoices and manage payment schedules. - Generate and send client invoices accurately and on time. - Track outstanding receivables and aging reports. - Follow up on overdue accounts and manage collections. Revenue Share Statement Creation: - Calculate and prepare accurate revenue share statements for partners. - Track revenue sharing agreements and payment schedules. Advanced Excel Operations: - Create and maintain complex financial spreadsheets and models. - Use advanced Excel functions (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, macros). - Develop automated reporting templates and dashboards. Must-have: - Xero Accounting Software: expert proficiency (certification preferred). - Stripe: reconciliation, subscriptions, dispute management, refunds, chargebacks. - US Tax Preparation: Federal and state, quarterly estimated payments, business tax returns. - Advanced Microsoft Excel: VLOOKUP, pivot tables, macros, financial modeling. - GAAP understanding (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). - Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable management. - 3-5 años professional bookkeeping/accounting experience. - Independent contractor experience (proven managing own schedule and deliverables). - Startup environment experience.
