About the role:The Field PLC Engineer is responsible for the deployment, commissioning, and support of electronic control systems for large-scale data center environments using Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). This role is highly technical, client-facing, and field-focused, requiring extensive travel (50-60%) to support both remote and onsite installation, testing, and troubleshooting activities. The Field PLC Engineer ensures precise, reliable, and scalable automation across HVAC, mechanical, and electrical systems during critical deployment phases.Key Responsibilities:Field Deployment & CommissioningTravel to client sites (50-60%) to support deployment, commissioning, and start-up of PLC-based control systems for data center facilitiesConduct onsite programming, testing, and troubleshooting of PLC systems controlling HVAC, mechanical, and electrical equipment in mission-critical environmentsProvide remote and onsite technical support during installation, commissioning, and post-deployment phasesWork directly with clients, contractors, and field teams to resolve integration issues, system errors, and performance concernsImplement customer-requested modifications and updates to PLC programs and control strategies in live production environmentsDebug and resolve installation issues during static and dynamic commissioning, including PLC logic, hardware, and communication network troubleshootingSupport field commissioning teams during system start-up, functional testing, and validation activities to ensure systems meet design specificationsDiagnose and correct system faults in real-time, often under time-sensitive conditions during critical deployment milestonesCollaborate with engineering, construction, and vendor teams to ensure successful integration of controls, equipment, and subsystemsDocument field changes, programming updates, system configurations, and lessons learned for project turnover and knowledge transferProvide technical training and support to client operations teams during system handoffParticipate in design reviews and client meetings to provide field engineering expertise and deployment feasibility inputQualifications:5+ years of experience as a PLC Programmer/Engineer with significant field deployment and commissioning experienceExperience with Studio 5000 / Rockwell Automation software in field and production environmentsProven hands-on experience commissioning complex chiller or boiler systems (central plants) in the fieldExperience developing and deploying redundancy strategies and programming redundant PLC controller managersStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in high-pressure, time-sensitive field environmentsAbility to work independently onsite with minimal supervision and manage multiple concurrent deployment activitiesExcellent communication and client-facing skills for technical discussions and issue resolutionWillingness and ability to travel up to 50-60%, including potential for extended site assignmentsStrong organization, task management, and documentation skills in dynamic field conditionsValid driver's license and ability to travel domestically (and internationally as needed)PreferredBachelor's degree in Software, Mechanical, or Electrical EngineeringExperience with Ignition SCADA, HMIs, or EPMS/BMS integrations in deployed environmentsData center or hyperscale infrastructure commissioning experienceExperience with remote support tools and methodologiesFamiliarity with construction and commissioning processes in large-scale facilitiesPhysical Requirements:Ability to travel frequently to job sites by car or plane, up to 85%Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout job sites for extended periodsAbility to climb ladders, stairs, and lifts as requiredAbility to bend, kneel, crouch, and work in tight or confined spacesAbility to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment and materials up to 50 poundsManual dexterity to handle tools, wiring, and small componentsAbility to work at heights and in varying indoor and outdoor conditionsAbility to wear and work in personal protective equipment when required (hard hate, vest, safety glasses, gloves, and safety-toed boots)Visual keenness to read schematics, labels, and digital displaysAbility to visually identify and differentiate wires by assigned colorAbility to hear and respond to alarms, equipment sounds, and verbal instructionsCapability to safely operate hand and power toolsAbout Us:Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Divcon delivers fully integrated automation solutions nationwide that optimize performance, energy efficiency, and reliability across HVAC, lighting, power monitoring, and mission-critical systems.
