In this role, you will serve as the subject matter expert on domestic and international tax information reporting, withholding obligations, and cross-border regulatory frameworks (including FATCA, CRS, and US Chapter 3/4 withholding). You will work closely with cross-functional teams—including Finance, Legal, Technology, and Operations—to ensure operational compliance, minimize exposure, and optimize tax processes.You will work closely with the Business units on new product developments and advise them on the tax reporting requirements especially as it relates to Digits Assets reporting.Key ResponsibilitiesSubject Matter Expertise: Serve as the primary technical advisor on US Information Reporting and Withholding (IRW) rules (Form 1099, 1042/1042-S, 8966) as well as global regulatory reporting frameworks (FATCA, CRS, CARF, and DAC7 where applicable).Technical Proficiency: Experience writing business requirements (BRDs) for software engineering teams and working with tax APIs or tax engines.Domain Knowledge: Deep understanding of cost-basis accounting, information reporting (Form 1099 / Form 1042-S family), tax withholding, and state/international tax implications for digital products.Documentation & Onboarding: Oversee the collection, review, and validation process for tax documentation (Forms W-9, W-8 series, self-certifications) across clients, vendors, and counterparties.Withholding & Remittance: Ensure accurate calculation, withholding, and timely remittance of tax on US-source fixed, determinable, annual, or periodical (FDAP) income and foreign partnership allocations.Annual Reporting: Manage the end-to-end preparation, reconciliation, and filing of annual tax information returns with the IRS and foreign tax authorities.Process & Technology Optimization: Partner with IT and Operations to design, implement, and enhance operational workflows and automated systems for onboarding, withholding calculations, and regulatory reporting.Audits & Risk Management: Lead internal control assessments, respond to tax authority audits or inquiries, and manage risk remediation plans.Policy & Advisory: Monitor ongoing legislative and regulatory developments (including IRS updates and OECD guidance), assess business impact, and update policies, SOPs, and employee training accordingly.Qualifications & ExperienceEducation: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. J.D., LL.M. in Taxation, or Master’s in Taxation strongly preferred.Certifications: CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation preferred.Experience: 5+ years of dedicated experience in tax information reporting and withholding within a public accounting firm, financial institution, or corporate tax department.Technical Knowledge: Strong expertise in IRC Chapters 3, 4 (FATCA), and 61, as well as Backup withholding and OECD Common Reporting Standard (CRS).Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Reporting Accuracy: 100% accuracy on customer tax document generation and regulatory filings.On-Time Delivery: Successful release of tax updates prior to statutory regulatory deadlines and tax seasons.Audit Compliance: Zero material penalty or deficiency findings from internal/external audits and tax authority inquiries.Key CompetenciesAbility to translate complex tax regulations into practical operational requirements.Excellent cross-functional communication and stakeholder management abilities.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.Compensation and BenefitsThe base pay range for this role is listed below.
