## About the Role
We are looking for a **Senior/Staff Full Stack Engineer** who is excited to build foundational systems from the ground up and have significant influence on the technology behind a rapidly growing AI platform.
The ideal candidate is a strong **0-to-1 builder** who enjoys working across frontend and backend, takes ownership of products from design through production, and thrives in an early-stage or high-growth startup environment.
The platform is focused on **accelerating drug discovery and improving human health**, giving engineers the opportunity to work at the intersection of software, AI, and life sciences.
## What You'll Do
* Build new product features and foundational systems from scratch across frontend and backend.
* Design, build, and own scalable backend services, REST APIs, and data pipelines.
* Work across application, identity, data storage, and ML layers.
* Own features end-to-end from initial design through production deployment, iteration, and scaling.
* Build production systems used by real customers.
* Work with scalable databases and data-intensive applications.
* Ship quickly within fast-moving development cycles and contribute to production early.
* Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, and AI scientists.
* Translate complex scientific workflows into intuitive, high-performance software.
* Help scale the platform to support growing enterprise demand.
## Required Qualifications
* **4+ years of professional software engineering experience**; internships do not count.
* Strong full-stack or backend engineering experience.
* Experience building and shipping **production systems used by real customers**.
* Strong proficiency in **Python and React**.
* Experience building backend services and **REST APIs**.
* Experience designing scalable systems, databases, and data-intensive applications.
* Demonstrated **end-to-end ownership** of products or features.
* Experience with **greenfield / 0-to-1 development**.
* Experience working at an **early-stage or high-growth startup**.
* BS in Computer Science, STEM, or a related technical field.

## Preferred Background
We especially value candidates who have:
* Worked at an early-stage or high-growth startup.
* Been a founder, founding engineer, or early employee.
* Built products from **0 → 1** and taken them into production.
* Owned systems across their full lifecycle.
* Shipped products directly to customers and iterated based on real-world feedback.
* Demonstrated strong product thinking alongside technical expertise.
* A genuine interest in **life sciences, drug discovery, computational biology, AI, or related areas**.

## Location & Work Arrangement
This is an **on-site San Francisco position**, with the office located near the Montgomery BART station.
Candidates should be based in the San Francisco Bay Area or willing to relocate and work **4–5 days per week in the office**.
## Candidates We Don't Want
We are unlikely to consider candidates with:
* Repeated job hopping or multiple employment stints under approximately 8 months.
* Only big-tech experience without meaningful startup or product-building exposure.
* Only life-sciences or big-pharma experience without broader software product/startup experience.
* Limited evidence of end-to-end ownership.
* Primarily maintenance or narrowly scoped engineering experience without 0-to-1 product-building experience.
