Requirements and responsibilities

DevOps Tech Lead (LATAM, Remote). OpsLogic is a cloud infrastructure and DevOps consulting firm. We embed senior engineers directly into client engineering teams on a retainer basis. Our clients are US-based startups and mid-market companies. We manage their cloud platforms so their product teams can focus on building. We are looking for a senior DevOps engineer who can also lead. Not a manager who drifted out of the technical work — someone who still writes Terraform and reviews pipelines, but who can also run a standup, track delivery across multiple engineers, and keep a client informed. This is a subcontractor role. Remote, full-time hours, long-term engagement. What you will be doing: On any given week, you will be doing both of these things: Hands-on technical work: - Building and maintaining infrastructure on AWS (ECS, EKS, RDS, VPC, WAF, ECR). - Writing Terraform for infrastructure changes. - Managing Kubernetes deployments with Helm. - Maintaining and improving CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions). - Debugging production issues alongside the team. Coordination and delivery: - Joining client meetings and async check-ins across a team of 3-5 engineers. - Tracking what is in flight, what is blocked, and what needs attention. - Communicating status to the client directly in Slack — concise, forward-moving updates. - Surfacing risks and blockers before they become problems. - Keeping delivery on track without needing to escalate everything. The engineers you will be coordinating with are senior. They know their work. Your job is not to manage them — it is to hold the thread and make sure things do not fall through the cracks. What we need: Hard requirements: - Eastern Time hours. You need to be available during US East Coast business hours. This is a firm requirement. - Fluent English. Written and verbal. You will be communicating directly with US clients in Slack and on video calls. This is a hard filter. - Senior DevOps depth. At least 6-8 years of hands-on infrastructure work. You can operate independently on complex problems. You do not need someone to walk you through it. - AWS proficiency. Core services in active use: ECS, EKS, EC2, RDS, VPC, IAM, WAF. You know your way around all of them. - Terraform. Infrastructure as code is how we work. Comfort writing and reviewing Terraform is required. - Kubernetes. Cluster operations, Helm chart deployments, day-two operations. - CI/CD. Jenkins is in active use. GitHub Actions experience is a strong plus. Coordination requirements: - Experience managing or leading a small engineering team, even informally as a tech lead. - Async-first communication style. We run on written communication, not meetings. - Comfortable as the point of contact between engineers and a client — you can translate technical status into something a non-engineer understands without dumbing it down. Nice to have: - Platform engineering exposure: ephemeral dev environments, developer tooling, internal platforms. - OpenSearch, PgBouncer, or JumpCloud experience. - WAF configuration and security hardening. - Experience in a consulting or agency model (you have worked across more than one client account). What this engagement looks like: - Type: Subcontractor. No employment. Monthly retainer. - Hours: Full-time equivalent (40 hrs/week) during ET business hours. - Location: Fully remote. LATAM strongly preferred. - Communication: Slack-first, async by default. Standups are short and to the point. - Team: You will be embedded with a team of senior DevOps engineers. Small, experienced group. No juniors to babysit. - Duration: Long-term. We do not do short projects. If it is a good fit, this runs for years.
