About the roleWe are hiring for a Lead Product Engineer to help shape the technical foundation of Workbrew as we scale. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys building systems directly, while also guiding engineering practices, architecture decisions, and technical direction across the organization.This role is ideal for an engineer who naturally alternates between writing production code, reviewing architectural tradeoffs, mentoring other engineers, and raising the overall quality bar of a product engineering team.We are looking for an experienced leader who cares deeply about excellence, efficiency, and security. This lead will support a small team of engineers, and report directly to the head of technology.In this role, you will:Lead by example. Operate as a player/coach who contributes directly to product development while helping the engineering organization make thoughtful technical decisions.Own architectural direction. Design systems and technical patterns that balance speed, reliability, scalability, and operational simplicity.Raise engineering standards through example. Introduce and reinforce best practices around testing, observability, deployment workflows, documentation, and code review culture.Bring security into the development process from the beginning. Help shape secure-by-default engineering practices across infrastructure, application development, authentication, authorization, and software supply chain security.Mentor engineers through collaboration. Pair on difficult problems, review design proposals, and help teammates grow in technical judgment and execution.The success metrics related to this role will include:Sustained engineering velocity without sacrificing reliability or quality.Faster mean time to detection (MTTD) and mean time to resolution (MTTR) for operational issues.Higher consistency in engineering standards across services, APIs, infrastructure, and developer workflows.Successful delivery of major product initiatives with maintainable long-term foundations.The toolset / stack for this role includes:Languages: Ruby/Rails, Go, SwiftSecurity: Vanta, Better StackGitHub, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code workflowsSlack and asynchronous remote collaboration practicesRequirements:You have at least 8 years professional, full-time software engineering experience, including experience leading technical direction for complex systems.You are deeply hands-on and still enjoy writing and shipping production code.You have experience acting as a technical lead, staff engineer, principal engineer, or similar player/coach role.You have strong architectural judgment and know how to balance pragmatism with long-term maintainability.You have experience building secure systems and integrating security practices into engineering workflows.You hold, or have equivalent knowledge to, a major security certification such as CISSP, CCSP, OSCP, or similar.You communicate clearly in written form and are comfortable collaborating asynchronously.Security-minded approach to the software development lifecycle, including threat modeling, risk management, infrastructure and cloud security, data production and privacy, and vendor and supply chain securityStrong point of view on the AI/emerging technology security landscapeNice to haves:Open source contributions & thought leadership in the security industryExpertise in more than one regulated industry’s security standards and requirementsBenefitsFor full-time employees, we offer:Unlimited PTO: We care about outcomes, not hours.Generous equity package: Workbrew is a seed-stage startup that is growing, and we want employees to share in our success.Annual Summit: the Workbrew Crew meets in-person once a year.Mac hardware: you are welcome to bring your own device if you like, otherwise Workbrew will provide an Apple laptop.For United States employees, we offer:Healthcare, vision, and dental through Thatch with a 70/30 employer/employee split.401k with a full match up to 3% of salary, and 50% match towards the next 2% of salary.For United Kingdom employees, we offer:Statutory contributions towards pensionEnterprise Management Incentive (EMI) stock option scheme availableWorkbrew is an equal opportunity employer.
