## About Covenant Covenant is the first AI-native law firm for private markets. We combine expert lawyers with advanced AI to help the world's largest private equity firms, endowments, sovereign wealth funds, and pension plans review investments faster, cheaper, and more accurately than traditional law firms or technology alone. We compete directly with Harvey and Legora in the PE legal intelligence space — and we're winning clients managing multi-billion dollar portfolios across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Our product suite includes AI-powered fund investment review, venture deal execution, MFN election analysis, NDA mark-up, and structured investment data extraction — all delivered through a unified platform with transaction-based pricing. ## The Role You'd be the only other engineer working directly alongside the CTO. This is not a "join a large team and own one microservice" role — this is "help build an AI-native legal platform that's replacing how private markets do legal work." The codebase moves fast. We've shipped 100+ commits in the last month alone: a full AI survey pipeline with ensemble LLM judging, a document anonymization pipeline, structured data extraction, credit covenant analysis, an AI chat agent (Ask Covenant AI), Cloud Run GPU infrastructure for self-hosted models, and comprehensive observability with PostHog and OpenTelemetry. You'd be stepping into a modern, well-structured codebase and immediately contributing to high-impact features. ## What You'd Work On - **AI/LLM Pipelines** — Multi-model ensemble orchestration, judge-based consensus systems, structured data extraction from legal documents. We run multiple LLM providers in parallel and use AI judges to pick the best answers. - **Full-Stack Product** — Next.js 15 App Router, React 19, Apollo GraphQL, TailwindCSS. Build features end-to-end from database schema to polished UI. - **Data Pipelines** — Inngest-powered background job orchestration handling document processing, anonymization, survey runs, and structured data extraction. Idempotent, retry-safe, and designed for reliability. - **Infrastructure** — PostgreSQL (Neon Serverless), GCP Cloud Run, OpenTofu/Terraform, Vercel, Docker. Real production infrastructure decisions, not toy projects. ## What We're Looking For **Required:** - Strong Node.js and TypeScript experience - Next.js / React production experience - Hands-on experience building with LLMs (prompt engineering, structured output, multi-model patterns) - Experience with data/job pipelines (Inngest, Temporal, Bull, or similar orchestration frameworks) - Comfort owning features end-to-end — schema design through deployment **Strong Plus:** - Terraform / OpenTofu (we manage GCP infra as code) - GraphQL (Apollo Server/Client) - PostgreSQL and ORM experience (we use Drizzle) - Observability tooling (OpenTelemetry, PostHog, structured logging) ## What Makes This Different - **Direct impact from day one.** You're not building internal tools or dashboards nobody looks at. Every feature you ship is used by institutional investors managing billions of dollars. - **Work directly with the CTO.** No layers of management. Short feedback loops. High trust and autonomy. - **Modern, well-maintained stack.** The codebase is clean, typed, tested, and documented. We use Claude Code, automated CI reviews, PGlite-based testing, and structured conventions. You'll spend time building, not fighting legacy code. - **AI-native, not AI-bolted-on.** AI isn't a feature we added — it's the core of the product. Multi-model ensembles, judge patterns, anonymization, structured extraction. If you want to work at the frontier of applied AI in a regulated domain, this is it. - **Competing and winning against well-funded players** in a market that's just getting started. Private markets legal work is a massive, underserved space. ## Our Stack `Next.js 15` · `React 19` · `TypeScript` · `Apollo GraphQL` · `PostgreSQL (Neon)` · `Drizzle ORM` · `Inngest` · `TailwindCSS` · `Vercel` · `GCP Cloud Run` · `OpenTofu/Terraform` · `PostHog` · `OpenTelemetry` · `Anthropic/OpenAI/Google AI` · `Turborepo` · `pnpm`
