Requirements and responsibilities
We are building an AI-powered back office for the skilled trades, starting with the $50B+ HVAC industry. We have strong traction and recently closed a $5M seed round to expand our engineering and product organization, as well as add additional services. We’re looking for a senior engineer to own and evolve the backend and AI systems that power our core workflows.
What you’ll build:
* Integrations and ingestion: pull data from third-party systems (APIs, webhooks, files).
* AI workflows in production: tool-using agents, RAG and search, classification and extraction, human-in-the-loop flows.
* Evals and monitoring: regression tests for prompts and workflows, quality metrics, drift detection, cost and latency tracking.
* Scalable systems: queues and orchestration, retries, data modeling, API design to support rapid iteration.
* Security and privacy: strong auth controls and safe handling of sensitive data.
Responsibilities:
* Analyze requirements and propose AI-native solutions to technical problems.
* Write clean, scalable code.
* Test and deploy features and services.
* Optimize AI system performance.
* Respond to critical system issues and ensure reliability.
* Mentor team members and collaborate across teams.
* Understand user needs and solve design challenges creatively.
This is a remote role. Minimum 4 hours overlap with the team (11am–3pm ET).
Qualifications:
* Senior-level backend experience (typically 5+ years) shipping production systems you’ve owned.
* Strong proficiency in a typed backend language (TypeScript preferred; comparable experience welcome).
* Hands-on experience with LLM-powered features, prompting, optimization, and AI architectures (RAG, reranking, etc.).
* Experience with infrastructure as code, cloud, and CI/CD systems.
* Deep understanding of a modern web and AI stack.
* Comfort using AI coding tools to build quickly and at scale.
Nice to have:
* Experience with workflow automation tools.
* Domain experience with back-office or skilled-trade workflows.
* Mobile development experience (Expo and/or React Native).
* Strong experience with AWS and core services.
