Requirements and responsibilities


The PositionThis role will position you as a key contributor of Reach's hardware engineering team. As a mechanical engineer, you will technically contribute to a significant section of Reach's ongoing projects and develop robust systems that are integral to Reach's wireless power beaming network. You will also conduct research to improve the performance, flexibility, and integrability of Reach's technology. As a key engineer in a small company, you will have a great deal of agency over your work, plenty of opportunity to discover and solve new challenges, and the ability to make large-impact decisions. This role requires a creative problem solver who is curious, passionate, and proactive, eager to add value before it's requested or identified by others.Key Position ResponsibilitiesBuild designs that will be integrated into future generations of Reach products by creating 3D models and 2D drawings of parts and assemblies.Actively contribute to Reach's hardware team development cycle, from concept proofing to product release including engineering analysis, simulated modeling for thermal and structural problems, design, assembly and validation of your designs.Actively work with EE and RF engineers to build necessary fixtures to validate the system and support Reach's manufacturing effort.Drive your own design reviews and interact with suppliers. This includes the creation and maintenance of manufacturing instructions.Collaborate with project management and other engineers to plan efforts and establish timelines for projects.Support test plan writing and field testing.Required QualificationsBachelors degree or above in mechanical engineering.At least seven (7) years experience in hands on mechanical design using multiple processes and materials.At least five (5) years of in depth solid modeling experience, using industry tools to manage complex parts and assemblies.Fluent with CAD design (SolidWorks).Experience with thermal design and FEA simulations.Experience with rapid prototyping technics (additive manufacturing, CNC).Experience with hardware design processes for manufacturing, from concept to system integration for volumes.Experience in sheet metal, machining, and plastic design.Familiar with designing fixtures and assemblies for reliability testing and quality control.Proficient communicator with strong organizational skills.Bonus QualificationsExperience with ANSYS for FEA simulations and Icepak (for thermal and CFD).Experience with design for FCC or other certifications.Experience with RF applications and collaborating with RF / antenna engineers.Experience leading engineering teams and successfully bringing high volume electro-mechanical products to mass production.Experience working at a start-up or with a small team.Salary$155,000 - $230,000 a yearThe expected salary range for this role is based on market benchmarks and internal compensation practices. Final offers will depend on factors like experience, skills, seniority, and how each candidate aligns with the needs of the role. Where an offer falls within the range will reflect the full scope of what a new hire brings to the team.
