You’ll work closely with the Director of AI Engineering and product and engineering partners to ship reliable AI features into production, with strong attention to evaluation, data, latency, and software quality.What You’ll DoDesign and build voice AI systems for real-time, conversational user experiencesDevelop and maintain AI orchestration layers, including agent workflows, state management, and system handoffsArchitect and improve workflows across speech-to-text, LLM reasoning, tool calling, and text-to-speechThink through tradeoffs in conversation design, prompt design, tool architecture, latency, and turn-takingBuild systems that handle ambiguity, interruptions, edge cases, and real-world voice interaction challengesWrite clean, tested, production-ready Python across APIs, services, and orchestration codeDesign data pipelines that capture, transform, and surface insights from patient and member interactionsPartner on technical direction and help shape how Blooming Health builds and deploys voice-based AI productsHands-on experience building and shipping voice AI or real-time conversational AI systems in productionExperience working with speech-to-text, text-to-speech, telephony, or streaming audio pipelinesStrong understanding of the challenges in voice systems, including latency, interruptions, barge-in, turn-taking, transcription quality, and conversation flowExperience integrating voice infrastructure such as Twilio, WebRTC, or similar real-time communication toolsHands-on experience with LLM APIs such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or similarStrong understanding of prompt engineering patterns, limitations, and production tradeoffsExperience designing conversational AI systems and reasoning through workflow design, agent structure, and uncertainty handlingAbility to evaluate when to use agents, tools, retrieval, or deterministic logic in AI systemsStrong Python skills, including experience with async Python such as asyncio, httpx, and similar frameworksExperience building APIs and backend servicesStrong grasp of clean code, testing, and production software qualityStrong SQL skills, ideally with PostgreSQLExperience building ETL pipelines and data workflowsUnderstanding of data modeling, schemas, and how to structure data for AI systems and analyticsExperience with multi-agent systems, tool use, and function callingRAG, embeddings, and retrieval systemsFamiliarity with evaluation and testing strategies for AI systemsExperience improving reliability and observability in production AI systemsStreaming data experience, including Kafka or event-driven systemsExperience with orchestration tools such as Airflow, Prefect, or Dagsterdbt or similar transformation toolsDocker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms such as GCP or AWSExperience in healthcare, care management, patient engagement, or SDOHFamiliarity with HIPAA and healthcare data and privacy considerationsCompensation and BenefitsSalary: $170,000 to $230,000Why Join Blooming Health?Impact: Help improve access to social care and advance health equityInnovation: Build real-world voice and AI systems that ship to productionOwnership: Take on meaningful technical responsibility and help shape the productTeam: Work with mission-driven people who move quickly and care about doing things well
