Job Description About the Role This is an Automation Engineer role sitting within the tech team at Spark but working closely with operational stakeholders across the business. You'll be the bridge between “what the business needs to run smoothly” and “what can be automated to make that happen”, translating day-to-day operational pain points (manual data entry, dropped handoffs between systems, slow response times, inconsistent processes) into reliable, well-tested automations. Day to day, that means partnering with teams across the business, sales, customer success, operations, support - to understand their workflows, then building and maintaining the automations that keep things running behind the scenes: routing leads and messages correctly, syncing data between systems, triggering the right actions at the right time, and flagging or escalating when something needs a human. You'll be comfortable owning a build end-to-end: scoping the problem with a non-technical stakeholder, architecting the workflow, building it in n8n/GHL, testing it, and then supporting and iterating on it once it's live. Because these automations touch real operational processes, reliability and clear communication matter as much as technical skill, you'll need to explain what you're building (and why something failed) in plain terms to people who don't work in n8n or APIs day to day, while still being the one who keeps the underlying systems solid. n8n Automation • Building multi-step workflows: triggers, branching, Function/Code nodes • Webhooks & HTTP Request nodes for API integrations • Auth handling (OAuth2, API keys) per service • Error workflows, retries, and debugging failed executions • AI integration: LLM nodes (OpenAI, Anthropic/Claude), prompt design, and chaining AI steps into workflows • AI Agent nodes for tool-calling, memory, and multi-step reasoning within workflows • Using AI for tasks like data extraction, summarization, classification, and auto-responses GHL Automations • Building workflows/triggers using custom fields, tags, and pipeline stages • GHL API/webhooks (contacts, opportunities, calendar, conversations) • Knowing when to keep logic in GHL vs. offload to n8n WhatsApp & Telephony • WhatsApp Business Cloud API (message templates, webhooks, media handling) • WhatsApp messaging and automation within GHL workflows • Twilio for SMS, voice, and programmable messaging/automation • Routing inbound messages/calls into GHL or n8n workflows Google Sheets + Apps Script • Using Sheets as a lightweight database (read/write via API or n8n) • Writing Apps Script for triggers, custom functions, and Sheet-native automation • Structuring data (headers, ranges) for reliable automation reads/writes Slack Automation • Incoming/outgoing webhooks for workflow notifications and alerts • Building Slack bots (Bolt SDK or API) for interactive messages/modals • Slash commands to trigger n8n/GHL workflows directly from Slack Supporting Skills • JavaScript basics (n8n Function nodes, Apps Script, Slack bot logic) • JSON handling and REST API fundamentals (auth, pagination, rate limits) • Testing/debugging workflows before production deployment Nice to Have Advantageous but not essential: • KrispCall (calling/telephony automation) • Wix (site integrations/automation) • Stripe (payment automation, webhooks for transactions/subscriptions) • Canva (design asset automation/templating)
