Responsibilities

Software Engineer — Backend (Java/Kotlin, Spring Boot, AWS) Location: LATAM (Remote) | Schedule: US Central time zone | Type: Full-time / Contract | Seats available: 3 About the Role We're hiring three Backend Software Engineers to join the platform team behind our Question Platform. This team owns engineering work the broader team hasn't had the bandwidth to get to — the kind of work every strong engineering org needs but often can't staff fast enough to keep up with. You'll work across compliance and maintenance initiatives, cost optimization, observability improvements, experiment clean-up, and internal operational tooling — high-impact, high-visibility work that directly improves the platform's stability and efficiency. This is a strictly backend role. Frontend-oriented developers are not a fit for this team. What You'll Do Build and maintain backend services in Java/Kotlin using Spring Boot Design and query data across MongoDB Atlas and Aurora MySQL Develop and consume GraphQL APIs via Netflix DGS Deploy and operate services on AWS Contribute to cost-saving and observability initiatives with measurable outcomes Partner with the team to reduce technical debt, clean up stale experiments, and improve operational tooling Work core hours aligned with US Central time What We're Looking For Required: 3–5 years of professional backend software engineering experience Strong hands-on experience with Java and/or Kotlin Production experience with Spring Boot Hands-on experience with AWS Direct, production experience with MongoDB Atlas Direct, production experience with Amazon Aurora (MySQL) Experience building or consuming GraphQL APIs, ideally via Netflix DGS (or a comparable server-side GraphQL implementation) Comfortable working core hours in US Central time zone Strong written and spoken English Strongly preferred: A track record of contributing to measurable cost savings or observability improvements in a production environment Experience with compliance-driven or maintenance-heavy engineering work Comfort working independently on deferred/backlog-style engineering priorities, not just greenfield feature work What Makes a Strong Candidate We're specifically looking for engineers who can speak directly to hands-on production experience with Aurora MySQL and MongoDB Atlas as a datastore pair, and who have personally authored GraphQL APIs on the server side (Netflix DGS or equivalent) — rather than only consuming or integrating with GraphQL. Location & Logistics Open to candidates based in LATAM Remote position
