About the Role:
- We are building a multi-tenant SaaS platform that helps teams deploy AI-powered support agents.
- Organisations upload policies and handbooks.
- The platform ingests, chunks, and indexes those documents so an AI agent can deliver grounded answers to end-user questions.
- The platform is backed by a workspace with billing, team management, webhooks, and admin tools.
- As a backend / platform engineer you will own the data layer, integrations, and operational backbone that make the product reliable at scale.
- Your work will be invisible to end users and critical to every feature they touch.
Responsibilities:
- Design, write, and maintain database migrations for Postgres, ensuring safe rollback paths and zero-downtime deploys.
- Own the ETL / document-ingestion pipeline — file upload, parsing, chunking, embedding, and indexing — with robust retry logic and failure visibility.
- Build and harden API endpoints for AI chat, document management, organisation administration, and billing.
- Integrate and maintain Stripe billing — subscriptions, invoices, webhook processing, and idempotent event handling.
- Develop and operate webhook delivery infrastructure for outbound tenant integrations, including delivery tracking and retry policies.
- Maintain operational scripts — database backup/restore, data warehouse sync, health checks — and contribute to a production deploy checklist.
- Manage the custom Node.js server (server.js), including scheduled jobs, graceful shutdown, and health endpoints.
Required Qualifications:
- Strong Node.js and TypeScript backend experience.
- Deep familiarity with Postgres — schema design, migrations, query optimisation, and connection management.
- Solid understanding of JWT authentication and secure token handling.
- Experience building file-upload pipelines and background job processing.
- Comfort with SQL migrations tooling and rollback strategies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Production experience with Stripe webhooks — signature verification, idempotent processing, and reconciliation.
- Familiarity with ETL patterns and document-processing pipelines.
- Exposure to RAG services (chunking, embedding APIs, vector search).
- Real-time communication via WebSockets.
- Database backup and restore procedures, point-in-time recovery.
What We Look For:
- Ability to design webhook processing that handles duplicates, out-of-order delivery, and partial failures.
Location & Setup:
- Remote-friendly.
- The platform runs on a single-host Node.js deployment today, with a near-term move to managed Postgres and plans to scale workers and services as the product grows.
