At Velsera, we are changing that.Velsera was formed in 2023 through the shared vision of Seven Bridges and Pierian, with a mission to accelerate the discovery, development, and delivery of life-changing insights.Velsera provides software and professional services for:AI-powered multimodal data harmonization and analytics for drug discovery and developmentIVD development, validation, and regulatory approvalClinical NGS interpretation, reporting, and adoptionWith our headquarters in Boston, MA, we are growing and expanding our teams located in different countries!What will you do?1) Technical Leadership (lead with this)Participate actively in code reviews across Java, Python, and JavaScript/TypeScript — you catch issues, set standards, and model what good looks likeDrive adoption of AI-assisted development practices in AWS-based environments, leveraging the team's Java, Python, and MongoDB stackOwn and improve CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI) and hold the team accountable to build, test, and deploy qualityEngage directly in technical design discussions — you may not be the architect on every feature, but you are a credible voice in every trade-off conversationIdentify and surface technical risk before it becomes delivery risk; you can recognize a bad technical decision without needing someone else to flag it firstChampion engineering best practices: test coverage, code quality gates via SonarQube, observability with Prometheus and ELK, and secure coding standards2) People & Team LeadershipManage 6–10 engineers across one to two agile teams; own their growth, performance, and day-to-day wellbeingRun effective 1:1s, set clear expectations, and create an environment where engineers can do their best workPartner with your teams on quarterly planning, translating product and business priorities into well-structured engineering roadmapsShield the team from noise and context-switching while keeping critical escalations flowing appropriatelyMentor engineers toward greater technical autonomy — you are building a team that needs you less over time, not more3) Delivery & Program ExecutionOwn the work breakdown structure for your teams — epics, stories, dependencies, and cross-team risks are visible and up to dateMaintain clear release schedules and communicate confidently with Product, Customer Operations, and senior engineering leadershipProactively identify and manage risks; you don't wait to be asked for a status updateFacilitate quarterly planning discussions across Engineering, Product, and Business stakeholdersRequirementsWhat do you bring to the table?8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience — you have written production code and are not far removed from itDemonstrated experience with AI-driven software development practices and tooling in cloud-native environmentsProficiency in one or more of: Java/Spring Boot, Python (Flask/FastAPI) — you can read and meaningfully review code across the team's primary stackHands-on experience with AWS services and modern CI/CD practices; you understand what happens between a PR merge and a production deployment2+ years in an engineering leadership role — tech lead with team ownership, or formal engineering managerExperience with agile delivery at scale: sprint planning, risk tracking, cross-functional stakeholder communicationStrong written and verbal communication skills in English; you can represent your team's technical work clearly to non-engineersStrongly Preferred:Experience with MongoDB and PostgreSQL in production environmentsFamiliarity with containerized workloads — Docker, Kubernetes (EKS), AWS ECSBackground in regulated or clinical software environments (HIPAA, GxP, SOC 2) — or demonstrated ability to operate in high-accountability delivery contextsPrior experience building or scaling teams in India-based engineering organizationsWhat This Role Is Not:This is not a project coordination role.
