The OpportunityWe are seeking a Consulting Actuary specializing in rate filings in the state of California to join our growing team. This role is critical in delivering actuarial expertise and strategic support across various lines of business including: Commercial Auto, Personal Auto, Inland Marine, Commercial Property, Commercial Crime, Commercial GL, Boiler & Machinery, and Package. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical knowledge, regulatory familiarity, and practical experience working with insurance carriers and related stakeholders.You will collaborate with Practice Leaders and clients to deliver data-driven insights, develop actuarial models, and support regulatory and business strategy initiatives.Key ResponsibilitiesActuarial Analysis & Modeling:Conduct Property & Casualty pricing studies and recommendations with a focus on California rate filings.Apply actuarial methods to support rate development, trend analysis, loss cost evaluations, and portfolio profitability.Regulatory Support & Filing Strategy:Support the development and submission of rate, rule, and form filings in California in coordination with internal compliance and regulatory teams.Assist clients with addressing state DOI rate related interrogatories.Strategic Insights & Communication:Translate complex actuarial findings into strategic insights and clear, actionable recommendations for both internal and client stakeholders.Prepare client-ready reports, presentations, and documentation to support decision-making.Client Engagement:Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, participating in meetings, presenting findings, and supporting ongoing actuarial and consulting needs.Build long-term relationships with clients, maintaining a strong understanding of their goals and operational environments.Collaboration & Mentorship:Work closely with cross-functional teams, including analysts, project managers, and regulatory consultants.Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members as needed.Industry Expertise & Innovation:Maintain current knowledge of California rate filing trends, legislative changes, and actuarial best practices.Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and process improvement initiatives.Qualifications5-7 years of actuarial experience with a focus on California rate filingsBachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, or related disciplineFellow or ACAS preferred; or Credit for the following Exams/Requirements: Exam 1, Exam 2, VEE Accounting and Finance, VEE Economics, Exam 3F, OC1, OC2, MAS-1, MAS-II, Course on Professionalism, Exam 5, and actively pursuing the ACAS designationExperience with insurance data, calculating actuarial adjustments to the data, and calculating rate level indicationsKnowledge of Commercial Auto, Personal Auto, Inland Marine, Commercial Property, Commercial Crime, Commercial GL, Boiler & Machinery, and Package and State Rate & Rule Filing requirements.Experience in Reinsurance, Predictive Modeling and Reserving is a plusProficient in Excel, Access, SQLBackground with other lines of business (Personal and/or Commercial Lines) and familiarity with Large Deductible Pricing methods is also desired, but not required.Why Join Us?Growth-Oriented Culture: Work with a leadership team committed to innovation and revenue expansion.Competitive Earning Potential: Base salary plus bonus potential, profit-sharing, and a comprehensive benefits package that rewards expertise and contributions.Legacy of Excellence: Be part of a well-respected organization with over 30 years of leadership in the insurance industry.Dynamic Team Culture: Work alongside talented colleagues who are passionate, driven, and committed to success.Salary and BenefitsThe base salary for this position is $120,000-$150,000.
