Working closely with our colleagues at Bad Robot Productions, our projects unite our extensive network of games, TV, and film industry talent to create original IPs, expansive worlds and tell new stories across all media platforms which are as fun to watch as they are to play.Bad Robot Games is looking for a Principal UI Engineer who is an expert in creating streamlined user experiences that are sleek, polished, and unobtrusive. In this role, you will own the UI engineering discipline end-to-end from architecture and systems design to final polish, all while setting the technical bar for how UI is built and maintained across the studio. We are looking for a deeply experienced engineer who can lead by example, uplift the team around them, and ensure robust, long-term decisions are made throughout the UI pipeline.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESSurface gameplay concepts through the HUD and in-game UIImplement store, progression, settings, loading and matchmaking screensOwn the core architecture of our UI systems and ensure they are robust, maintainable, and extendableOwn all polish aspects of UI including animation and audioIterate with our internal team to find the proper visual aesthetic for our menusPrototype, polish, and maintain any in-world interfacesBring technical excellence to UI across multiple features and platforms, and be a go-to resource for the broader engineering teamOptimize and fix bugs in existing UI systems, including porting Blueprints to native code where appropriateImprove and iterate on existing features, accept and respond to critical feedback, and prototype new features as neededWrite robust, maintainable code and contribute ideas toward all aspects of the game's production and developmentCollaborate cross discipline with engineering, design, and art to problem solve and push the quality of the player experienceParticipate in playtesting and providing hands-on feedback as the project progressesAll of our roles require up to 10% air travel. Examples include Studio/Team Offsites, Team/Studio Events, etc.KEY QUALIFICATIONS15+ years of game development experience in an engineering role, with significant focus on UI systemsAt least two shipped games on PC or Console, at least one of which was in Unreal Engine (and ideally was a multiplayer shooter)Deep expertise in C++, UMG, Slate, and audio integrationVeteran in both PC and console input paradigmsAble to code and architect UI systems, gameplay mechanics, and supporting toolsA keen analytical mind with strong problem-solving skills and creativity in thinking outside established solutionsExcellent communication and collaboration skills and able to work across disciplines and inspire those around themSelf-motivated, strong work ethic, and able to work independently in a fast-paced start-up environmentProficiency in the pipelines, tools, and processes of creating, building, shipping, and supporting gamesA passion for multiplayer online gaming and a rich history of playing across a wide variety of genresPerformance optimization experience specific to UI rendering and draw call budgetsAll of our roles require up to 10% air travel.
