About the RoleWe're building next-generation infrastructure for decentralized science and are looking for a Core Engineer who has successfully built AI agent systems or complex research infrastructure from scratch. This is a foundational role where you'll own the design, architecture, and implementation of the core systems that power our AI agents and coordination protocols. You'll work closely with product, research, and science teams to shape the technical direction of Bio and ensure our systems are reliable, performant, and ready to scale globally. What You'll DoArchitect and build high-performance AI agent infrastructure from the ground upDesign and implement on-chain coordination systems (funding mechanisms, governance, research incentives, token flows)Build fault-tolerant backend services for agent orchestration, data pipelines, and integration with external systems (cloud labs, bio-databases, CROs)Optimise system performance, throughput, and reliability under real-world research workloadsLead technical decisions around system design, data models, and scaling strategyCollaborate closely with product and science teams to translate research requirements into production systemsEstablish best practices for code quality, testing, observability, and incident responseMentor other engineers as the team growsWhat We're Looking ForProven experience building AI agent systems, research platforms, or complex technical infrastructure from scratchStrong background in distributed systems and high-throughput architecturesExpertise in one or more backend languages (Python, Go, Rust, TypeScript)Deep understanding of LLM architectures, agent orchestration patterns, and ML systems in productionExperience designing systems that integrate with messy, real-world data sourcesSolid grasp of smart contract development and on-chain coordination mechanismsComfortable operating in an early-stage, fast-moving environmentStrong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionallyNice to HaveExperience scaling AI systems to production with thousands of usersPrior work in biotech, computational biology, or scientific computingBackground in DeSci, crypto protocols, or decentralized coordinationOpen-source contributions in AI, research tooling, or infrastructureWhy Join UsFoundational role with real technical ownership and impactCompetitive salary + meaningful equity/token componentRemote-first culture with a world-class, mission-driven teamOpportunity to build category-defining infrastructure for open science from day oneAbout BioBio is a decentralized science protocol that helps launch and grow AI-driven biotech research. It enables scientists to raise funds, create value from their work, and distribute that value directly to their communities. Since 2023, Bio has directed over $50m to global researchers, offering an alternative to traditional pharma funding. Backed by investors like Binance Labs, Northpond Ventures, and Animoca Brands, Bio accelerates real-world therapeutics across longevity, brain health, fertility, psychedelic science, and more.
