Requirements and responsibilities

Visual & Brand Designer. Full-time · Remote (Colombia). Compensation: USD $1,200–$1,300, paid in COP at the daily exchange rate. Language: English C1+. Level: Mid+ (judgment matters more than years). About VAU VAU is an early-stage premium wellness brand built on clarity, intention, and discipline. We work with clean science, structured visual systems, and communication designed to earn trust over time. We are pre-launch and deliberate about it. Our focus is not speed for the sake of visibility, but building brand equity correctly from day one. VAU is not trend-driven, loud, or decorative. It is designed to feel coherent, intentional, and emotionally resonant, without excess. This Role This is not a production-only role. This is not a content execution position. This role exists to build, protect, and evolve VAU’s visual language as the brand grows. You will be evaluated primarily on: * Visual judgment. * Creative range within a system. * Clarity and hierarchy. * Speed with precision. * Ability to adapt style to context and objective. Execution matters. Judgment matters more. The Bar (Non-Negotiable) This role requires strong visual taste and creative range. You must be able to: * Design controlled, editorial systems when clarity is required. * Design expressive, social-native or campaign-driven visuals when attention and emotion are needed. * Know when to simplify and when restraint would weaken impact. We value discipline and structure. We also value adaptability, relevance, and surprise when the context requires it. We do not teach taste. We do not micromanage decisions. We expect designers here to see. What You’ll Do 1. Visual Execution * Design brand-critical assets across social, paid media, e-commerce, and campaigns. * Adapt VAU’s visual language intentionally across contexts such as education, performance, storytelling, and conversion. * Build and maintain a flexible but coherent visual system, including typography, spacing, rhythm, and hierarchy. * Design for clarity, retention, interaction, and trust, not just aesthetics. * Know when to follow the system and when to stretch it without breaking it. 2. Brand & Creative Judgment * Act as a visual filter for the brand. * Recognize when a piece is off-brand, unresolved, or diluted without needing constant direction. * Translate abstract ideas such as science, ritual, and emotional regulation into visuals people understand and connect with. * Balance consistency with creative variation depending on channel and objective. 3. Trend Literacy & Cultural Awareness * Stay current with visual and cultural trends across wellness, beauty, fashion, and digital platforms. * Understand trends without chasing them. * Apply references selectively and intelligently, always in service of the brand. * Be trend-literate, not trend-led. 4. Speed, Iteration & Ownership * Work fast without becoming sloppy. * Iterate without ego and discard ideas when needed. * Deliver consistently without excuses or drama. * Own outcomes, not just tasks. How You Work (Tools & Process) You are fluent in modern, image-driven design workflows. You work comfortably with tools such as Figma, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Canva Pro, and understand image composition, hierarchy, and visual systems as core skills. You integrate AI tools such as Midjourney, Firefly, Leonardo, Ideogram, ChatGPT, and Google Gemini as accelerators for exploration, iteration, and speed, always subordinated to brand judgment and visual coherence. You can demonstrate at least one example where AI meaningfully improved your process and where your human judgment elevated the final outcome. Tools support your eye. They do not replace it. What We Look For (Evidence-Based) We are not looking for declarations. We are looking for proof. You should be able to show: * A portfolio with real range, including editorial clarity and expressive concepts. * Evidence of systems, not only isolated pieces. * Strong hierarchy, spacing, and typographic control. * At least one project where design decisions improved clarity, engagement, or performance. * At least one example where AI was part of your workflow in a meaningful way. Years of experience are secondary. Your eye is the qualification. This Role Is Not for You If * You design in one style and struggle to adapt. * You rely on templates to feel safe. * You confuse complexity with sophistication. * You avoid iteration or feedback. * You need step-by-step instructions. * You prioritize comfort over growth. * You want self-expression more than brand clarity. Growth Path As VAU grows, this role can expand into: * Broader creative ownership. * Campaign direction. * System leadership. Growth here is driven by judgment, consistency, and trust, not titles or tenure.
