About Merative & MergeMerative is a data, analytics, and technology partner for the health and government sectors, formerly known as IBM Watson Health.Our Merge portfolio is a recognized leader sted by 6 of the 10 largest U.S. health systems.The Merge Imaging Suite is a modular, cloud-native platform — including Merge PACS, the Merge Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA), and the zero-footprint, regulatory-cleared Merge Universal Viewer — that consolidates DICOM and non-DICOM images across radiology, cardiology, and other service lines to create a single source of truth for imaging data.The RoleAs a Software Development Manager on the Medical Imaging team, you will lead a team of software engineers responsible for the design, development, and delivery of components within the Merge enterprise imaging ecosystem. This is a working manager role: you are expected to rematicipate set a high bar for engineering quality — while also growing engineers, running an effective delivery process, and partnering across product, QA, regulatory, and clinical stakeholders.You understand that this is regulated medical device software, where reliability, security, interoperability, and patient safety are not negotiable, and you know how to move a team quickly without compromising them.What You'll DoLead and grow the teamManage, mentor, and develop a team of 6–10 software engineers — hiring, coaching, career development, performance management, and day-to-day support.Foster a culture of ownership, technical excellence, code quality, and continuous improvement.Set clear goals and priorities, remove blockers, and hold the team accountable for outcomes.Stay hands-on and technicalParticipate directly ign, and code reviews; contribute code and prototypes where it accelerates the team and keeps you close to the product.Guide technical decisions on scalability, performance, security, and maintainability of imaging services and applications.Drive engineering best practices: CI/CD, automated testing, observability, secure coding, and technical debt management.Troubleshoot complex production and clinical-environment issues alongside the team when needed.Own delivery in the imaging domainDeliver features and releases across enterprise imaging components — PACS, VNA, viewers, and related services — on time and at a high quality bar.Ensure solutions correctly implement medical imaging standards and workflows, including DICOM, DICOMweb, and radiology/cardiology reading workflows.Advance cloud-native and hybrid deployments, and standards-based interoperability with EHRs, PACS, VNAs, and hospital systems (HL7, FHIR, IHE profiles, XDS).Uphold quality, safety, and complianceEnsure development follows medical device software processes and quality management practices (e.g., IEC 62304, ISO 13485, FDA design controls).Partner with QA, regulatory, and product teams to support verification & validation, risk management, and audit readiness.Champion security and privacy (HIPAA and protected health information) across the software lifecycle.Collaborate across the organizationPartner with Product Management to translate the roadmap into executable engineering plans.Work with clinical, support, and customer-facing teams to understand real-world workflows and resolve issues.Communicate status, risks, and trade-offs clearly to leadership and stakeholders.What You'll Bring (Required)8+ years of professional software development experience, with 3+ years managing or leading software engineering teams.Proven track record as a hands-on technical leader who still reads and reviews code and contributes to design.Strong software engineering fundamentals: system design, distributed systems, APIs, databases, testing, and secure coding.Direct experience building or maintaining medical imaging software, with practical knowledge of the DICOM standard and imaging workflows.Experience delivering software in a regulated environment (medical device / healthcare, or comparable — e.g., IEC 62304, FDA, ISO 13485, HIPAA).Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and modern delivery practices (CI/CD, containers, automated testing).Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead through influence across cross-functional teams.Bachelor's degree ineering, or equivalent practical experience.Nice to HaveExperience with enterprise imaging concepts: PACS, Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA), universal/zero-footprint viewers, or teleradiology and workflow orchestration.Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards: DICOMweb, HL7 v2, FHIR, IHE profiles, XDS/XDS-I.Experience with radiology and/or cardiology clinical workflows.Experience integrating AI/ML algorithms into clinical imaging workflows.Hands-on experience with the primary stack: [e.g., Java/C#/C++, JavaScript/TypeScript, .NET, Kubernetes] — tailor to your team.Prior experience scaling teams or modernizing legacy imaging platforms to the cloud.Why Join UsBuild software that directly supports clinicians in diagnosing and treating patients.Work on a market-leading enterprise imaging platform used by the largest health systems in the U.S.Lead meaningful technical work at the intersection of cloud, interoperability, and healthcare.Competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and flexible/hybrid working.
