Role: Associate Partner - Head of ComplianceAssociate Partner - Head of Compliance (UK) (SMF16 Designate; Financial Crime Oversight Lead; MLRO/SMF17/SMF3 subject to regulatory assessment)The Role: Augment Risk is seeking a senior compliance leader to join the UK business as Head of Compliance (UK). This individual will be responsible for the oversight, effectiveness, and ongoing development of the firm’s compliance and financial crime arrangements, ensuring adherence to applicable regulatory requirements in the UK and supporting the broader group as needed. Subject to regulatory approval, the role is expected to perform the SMF16 (Compliance Oversight) function and may serve as a member of the UK Board (potentially requiring SMF3 and regulatory approval). The role combines strategic oversight with hands-on execution, reflecting the firm’s size and stage of development. The successful candidate will be accountable for maintaining effective systems and controls, embedding a strong culture of compliance, and ensuring robust oversight of financial crime risks, including sanctions.The role will report to the Group Chief Legal Officer, will work closely with the UK CEO (SMF1), and will have direct access to the UK Board with authority to escalate matters independently where required. The role will also support the firm’s contractual and regulatory framework, including oversight of UK broking documentation (such as TOBAs), and ensure compliance with Lloyd’s broker requirements. The individual will take responsibility for the firm’s financial crime framework, including sanctions controls, and will assess, in conjunction with senior management and advisors, the appropriate allocation of MLRO responsibilities (including potential SMF17 designation) in line with the firm’s regulatory obligations and business model.Key Responsibilities:Regulatory Oversight & SMF ResponsibilitiesAct as the senior individual responsible for the compliance function within the UK entity (SMF16, subject to approval)Provide independent oversight and challenge to senior management and the Board on regulatory and compliance mattersEnsure clear allocation of compliance responsibilities and effective governance arrangementsMaintain direct engagement with the FCA, Lloyd’s and other relevant regulators, acting as a primary point of contact where appropriateCompliance Framework & Risk ManagementOwn, develop and maintain the firm’s compliance framework in line with FCA requirements (including SYSC and SMCR)Ensure compliance with Lloyd’s broker requirements and associated regulatory expectationsIdentify, assess and monitor compliance risks across the business, ensuring appropriate mitigation strategies are implementedEstablish and maintain a forward-looking compliance monitoring plan and oversee its executionEnsure compliance arrangements remain proportionate to the size, nature and complexity of the firmMaintain oversight of the firm’s risk register and associated controls, ensuring compliance risks are appropriately identified, assessed, monitored and escalatedFinancial Crime & Sanctions OversightOwn and oversee the firm’s financial crime framework, including sanctions, anti-money laundering (AML), and related controlsEstablish and maintain appropriate sanctions screening processes and controls across the businessEnsure effective identification, escalation and management of financial crime risks, including suspicious activity where relevantAssess and advise on the firm’s regulatory obligations in respect of financial crime, including whether formal MLRO designation is requiredWhere appropriate, assume MLRO/nominated officer responsibilities (subject to regulatory scope and approval)Contractual & Legal/Compliance OversightOversee the development, review and maintenance of UK broking documentation, including Terms of Business Agreements (TOBAs) and other client and counterparty agreementsEnsure that contractual documentation aligns with regulatory requirements and the firm’s risk appetiteWork closely with Legal to ensure appropriate governance over contractual frameworks while maintaining compliance independenceSupport the development of standardised contractual approaches as the firm scalesPolicies, Procedures & ControlsDevelop, implement and maintain policies and procedures to support regulatory compliance and financial crime controlsEnsure regular review and Board approval of key compliance documentationOversee incident, breach and issue management processes, ensuring appropriate escalation and remediationRegulatory Reporting & GovernanceOversee regulatory submissions, returns, and notifications to ensure accuracy and timelinessProvide regular reporting to the Board on compliance and financial crime matters, including risks, incidents, and regulatory developmentsMaintain appropriate records to support regulatory accountability and audit requirementsTraining & CultureLead the development and delivery of compliance and financial crime training tailored to roles and responsibilitiesPromote a strong culture of compliance and ethical conduct across the organisationSupport senior management in embedding regulatory awareness into business decision-makingInternational & Group OversightSupport oversight of compliance arrangements across other jurisdictions, including the EU and Bermuda, as the firm expandsWork with group stakeholders to ensure alignment of global and local compliance standards, while maintaining UK regulatory independenceAssist in building scalable compliance structures to support international growthCollaborationWork closely with Legal, Operations, HR and business teams to support compliant growthLiaise with group functions to ensure coordination across jurisdictions while maintaining appropriate local accountabilityParticipate in and support management-level governance forums, including those responsible for the review and approval of trading partners, ensuring appropriate compliance and risk considerations are incorporated into decision-makingGovernance & IndependenceMaintain the independence of the compliance function while supporting the commercial objectives of the businessEnsure the ability to escalate issues to the Board without undue influenceOperate with sufficient authority, resources and access to discharge regulatory responsibilities effectivelyExperience & QualificationsSignificant experience (typically 10+ years) in a senior compliance role within an FCA-regulated firmExperience within insurance, reinsurance or Lloyd’s broking environments strongly preferredStrong working knowledge of FCA regulatory requirements, including SYSC and SMCRExperience engaging with regulators and managing regulatory interactionsDemonstrated ability to operate at Board or senior committee levelExperience with Lloyd’s broker requirements and London Market practices preferredExperience with financial crime and sanctions frameworks preferredExperience supporting multi-jurisdictional compliance frameworks
