We offer expert opinions in numerous forensic areas, including sexual assault, child abuse, gunshot wounds, assault, DUI, and homicide cases. We are retained by both the prosecution and the defense, with a significant portion of our cases coming from defense attorneys. Join us as we continue to expand our influence in the field of forensic nursing and expert consultation.Job OverviewWe are seeking a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon to provide expert medical consultation and testimony services as an independent contractor. This unique opportunity allows you to expand your professional expertise into the fascinating world of forensic medicine and legal consultation.This role offers the chance to apply your medical knowledge in criminal and civil legal cases where you'll analyze complex cases involving trauma, assault injuries, accident-related orthopedic damage, and other forensic scenarios that require specialized medical interpretation.The ideal candidate possesses strong critical thinking skills and can think outside the box when analyzing how injuries occur. You'll need to consider how underlying medical conditions may affect injury patterns and outcomes, and be able to explain complex traumatic injuries in clear, understandable terms that help juries grasp the injury mechanism and how it relates to the specific elements of each case.In this role, you will review medical records, provide expert opinions, conduct independent medical examinations, and testify in legal proceedings related to orthopedic injuries and conditions. You'll work with both prosecution and defense attorneys, ensuring objective medical analysis that serves the pursuit of justice.Essential functionsReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.Record Review & Analysis: Review medical records, imaging studies, and other documentation related to orthopedic injuries and conditionsReport Writing: Prepare comprehensive written reports and expert opinions based on medical record review and examination findingsIndependent Medical Examinations: Conduct thorough medical examinations of plaintiffs/defendants as requestedExpert Testimony: Provide expert testimony at depositions, trials, and other legal proceedings via telephone, video conference, or in-person appearanceCase Consultation: Collaborate with attorneys to provide medical expertise and strategic insightsProfessional Development: Stay current with medical literature, research, and developments in orthopedic medicine and surgeryDocumentation: Maintain detailed time records and submit accurate invoices in accordance with company proceduresTravel: Out-of-state travel may be required with short notice for testimony and examinationsRequired Education, Experience and SkillsEducation & Licensure:Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degreeBoard certification in Orthopedic SurgeryCurrent, unrestricted medical license in good standingMaintenance of appropriate certifications and continuing education requirementsExperience:Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in orthopedic surgeryPrevious expert witness or forensic consultation experience preferredSkills & Competencies:Excellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to explain complex medical concepts in layman's termsStrong analytical and critical thinking abilitiesProfessional demeanor and appearance for testimonyAttention to detail and accuracy in documentationAbility to work independently and meet deadlines without oversightProficiency with electronic medical records and computer systemsCompensation StructureService Type & Rate & Completion Payment*The compensation is structured with hourly rates for Pre-Trial Services (Record Review, Verbal Report & Report Writing at $200.00/hour; Independent Medical Examinations at $275.00/hour). Testimony Services include Half-day flat rate up to 4 hours at $1,000.00; Additional hours at $275.00/hour; Telephonic/Deposition (hourly) at $275.00/hour. Travel includes Travel time at $100.00/hour; Airfare, rental car/fuel, transfers, lodging reimbursed at cost. Completion Payment: Upon successful closure of the case per the attorney, contractor receives a completion payment equal to 100% of all amounts previously billed and approved by Company (see above for specific amounts).
