Requirements and responsibilities

The U.S. mortgage market is a $14 trillion pillar of the economy — and much of it still runs on fax machines, overnight shipping, and manual workflows. Snapdocs is changing that. Our platform currently powers 20% of all real estate closings in the country, and we’re just getting started. We design workflow software and AI-driven automation that connects lenders, settlement teams, notaries, and investors — eliminating friction, reducing risk, and delivering a faster, simpler closing for every borrower. Our customers range from the largest mortgage lenders to independent title companies. They trust us because we solve real operational pain with empathy, rigor, and reliability. We’re backed by Sequoia, Y Combinator, and F-Prime, and we’re building for the long term. The OpportunityMortgage closing sits at the center of one of the largest, most fragmented financial transactions in the US. The process is long, multi-party by nature, and still mostly manual in ways that cost real time and money for everyone involved. Snapdocs has spent the better part of a decade automating it. Today the company connects hundreds of lenders and thousands of settlement professionals, signing services, and notaries into a single digital closing platform. Backed by Sequoia Capital and on a clear path to sustainable growth, Snapdocs is the operating standard for digital mortgage closing, built to ride out rate cycles and expand well beyond them. Our engineering organization is structured around focused product pods, each owning a distinct surface of the platform. We are looking for a senior engineering manager to lead multiple pods. The RoleYou'll own one of our core engineering pods from day one, reporting to the Director of Engineering. The starting footprint is 8 direct reports, engineers from senior to associate, with a second pod coming online within 3 to 6 months as your leadership of the first is established. Fully ramped, you're managing 12 or more engineers across two product domains. This role calls for someone technically present. The team includes Staff and Senior engineers doing strong work. What they need is a manager who can engage with them at a real level: giving architectural feedback that lands, caring about code quality in ways that earn credibility, and thinking about AI not as a productivity shortcut but as a reason to rethink how a software team operates. If that's the kind of engineering manager you are, this is a good fit.Key ResponsibilitiesOwn day-to-day execution of your engineering pod: sprint planning, delivery, and team healthPartner closely with product managers to align on quarterly goals, clear blockers, and keep work pointed in the right directionWork alongside engineering leadership and the engineering team on architectural decisions, shaping them, not just attending themTake on a second engineering pod within 3 to 6 months as your leadership of the first team is establishedLead full performance management for 8 to 12 engineers: 1:1s, twice-annual reviews, coaching plans, and promotion recommendationsTranslate emergent AI strategies into team-level execution; partner across the org to test and refine workflows, review cycles, and SDLC practices as engineering-wide standards take shape.Qualifications & Experience7+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong background in full stack web application development4+ years managing engineering teams, including experience managing multiple concurrent teams or podsTrack record of shipping software across an agile SDLC, with a bias towards rapid, iterative development and constantly shortening the feedback loopStrong partner to product management who looks beyond the tech stack; possesses the business curiosity and customer insights necessary to make decisive product calls and navigate complex cross-functional trade-offsFull-range people management experience: growing high performers, supporting struggling ones, and hiring new onesTechnical grounding strong enough to give credible feedback on code and architectural decisionsInformed point of view on AI in software engineering, you've thought about how the process changes, not just the speedExperience with Ruby on Rails and React are a plusCompensation & BenefitsWe believe in being upfront about pay.
