We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join our Strategic Military Space (SMS) Division. The emphasis will be on satellite ground systems and related tooling, which will be used by mission and satellite operations teams in various capacities. Integration of the satellite to the ground system is often performed. Software maintenance and operational support are also expected.The role of a Senior Software Engineer emphasizes advanced expertise in software development, focusing on the design, implementation, and optimization of complex systems. Senior Software Engineers are tasked with delivering high-quality technical solutions and contributing to the architecture and development of scalable and reliable software systems. While the primary focus is on technical excellence, the role may also involve leadership responsibilities to support and guide the team in achieving successful release cycles.The Strategic & Military Space Division delivers advanced satellite and sensor systems that support the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community. Our division is a key component of national security, providing technological solutions and expert mission support. Become part of a team dedicated to making a tangible contribution to our nation’s defense capabilities.Key Responsibilities:Executes all phases of software development including requirements, design, implementation, testing, delivery, documentation, and maintenancePlans and provides technical expertise on projects or major phases of significant projectsEvaluates vendor capabilities to provide required products or servicesMay serve as architect lead to focus on key software areas to ensure new features are cohesively designed to be integrated back into the larger existing productMay help design new software architecture to better support product goalsMay provide work leadership to other members of the teamMay manage small teams and lead small projects, including selecting, mentoring, training, and other employee development functionsCoordinates with Program Managers and Software Systems Engineers to meet product design goalsRequired Qualifications:Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain US Government Security ClearanceBS degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field and 10 years of relevant experienceProficiency in all phases of software development including requirements, design, implementation, testing, delivery, and maintenanceAbility to respond resourcefully to new demands and challengesSuperior analytical and problem-solving abilitiesAbility to provide leadership and mentoring to junior EngineersAbility to serve as a technical adviser to Program Managers on proposals and in program executionStrong understanding of the lab’s core technologies and capabilities including:Architect, design, develop, and analyze complex and difficult software systemsExpertise in at least one of the following languages: C# (preferred), C++, JavaExperience with a database and associated query language (i.e., SQL)Experience with front-end frameworks (Angular, etc.)Expertise with web languages (Typescript, JavaScript, CSS, etc.)Ability to write clean, consistent, and well-documented codeExperience with software test methodologies (unit, integration, etc.)Experience with agile development methodologies and DevOps conceptsExperience with use of version control software, ticketing, and collaboration documentation toolsExperience with utilizing design patternsExperience with microservice architecture and/or message-based application designPreferred Qualifications:US Government Top Secret Security Clearance3+ years leading a technical team3+ years of experience in web application developmentAbility to anticipate risks and develop contingency plans to manage themAbility to relate well to people at all levels inside and outside of the organizationProven organization and planning skillsHighly self-motivated and directedEffective written and verbal communication skillsAbility to develop, debug, and deploy containerized solutions (Docker, K8S, Helm, etc.)Advanced AWS infrastructure and services knowledge and experienceExperience with system level integrationExperience with satellite flight or ground systemsSalary Range$117,500 - $156,000Salary commensurate based on education and experienceThis range serves as a general guideline and may vary based on factors such as role, level, location, market conditions, and individual qualifications, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
