POSITION OVERVIEW We are seeking an Epic Client Systems Administrator (ECSA) to join our technology infrastructure team at a leading genetic testing laboratory. In this role, you will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, and optimization of Epic client systems and the underlying infrastructure that supports them. You will work at the intersection of enterprise IT and a regulated clinical environment, ensuring Epic systems are stable, secure, performant, and aligned with the operational needs of a high-throughput genetics lab. This is a romote role based in Houston, TX. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Epic Client Systems Administration Serve as the Epic Client Systems Administrator (ECSA), owning the installation, configuration, patching, and lifecycle management of Epic client environments Manage Epic client workstation infrastructure including Hyperspace deployments, Citrix/virtual desktop environments, and related end-user tools Coordinate Epic upgrades, maintenance windows, and environment refreshes in alignment with Epic’s release schedule Troubleshoot and resolve Epic client-side issues, serving as the escalation point for system-level incidents Maintain Epic system configurations in compliance with Epic standards, security policies, and laboratory regulatory requirements Systems Architecture & Engineering Design, deploy, and manage enterprise infrastructure with a strong emphasis on Azure and Linux platforms Support hybrid cloud and on-premises architectures across the genetics lab environment Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to enable consistent, repeatable, and scalable deployments Engineer and maintain systems supporting HPC and clinical workloads unique to a genetic testing environment Operations, Reliability & Performance Monitor and optimize infrastructure for stability, performance, and cost efficiency Perform capacity planning to support growing genomic data and workload demands Implement and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions Act as escalation support for system-level incidents and infrastructure service interruptions Automation, Security & Compliance Develop and maintain automation scripts (Python, Bash, PowerShell) to streamline Epic and infrastructure operations Apply security best practices: patch management, system hardening, and least-privilege access controls Support HIPAA, CAP, and CLIA compliance by maintaining secure, auditable, and well-documented systems Participate in incident response and post-incident reviews Collaboration & Documentation Work closely with Epic application analysts, clinical operations, and IT teams to support deployments and troubleshooting Create and maintain technical documentation, system diagrams, and operational runbooks Provide technical guidance and mentorship to support staff and junior team members QUALIFICATIONS Required Epic Client Systems Administrator (ECSA) certification – would be a plus 3+ years of experience as a System Administrator supporting enterprise-scale environments Strong hands-on experience with Azure infrastructure and Linux administration Proficiency in scripting languages: Python, Bash, and/or PowerShell Solid understanding of Epic client infrastructure including Hyperspace, Citrix, or VDI environments Strong knowledge of system security best practices: patching, hardening, and access control Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; equivalent certifications considered Preferred Experience supporting Epic in a clinical laboratory, genetic testing, or regulated healthcare environment Familiarity with HPC environments: clustered compute, job scheduling, and capacity planning Knowledge of HIPAA, CAP, CLIA, or related compliance frameworks Experience with genomics platforms or laboratory information systems (LIS) COMPETENCIES Deep expertise in Epic client systems administration and enterprise infrastructure management Strong technical proficiency in Azure, Linux, and scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell) Detail-oriented with a focus on reliability, security, and compliance in regulated environments Effective communicator across technical and clinical stakeholder groups Self-directed with a continuous improvement mindset and ability to manage competing priorities
