About the RoleWe are looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Residential Solar Design Engineer to join JobEngine, a fast-growing company providing technology and services to the residential solar industry to accelerate the transition to renewable energy. In this role, you will be responsible for producing accurate and code-compliant CAD designs for residential photovoltaic (PV) solar systems. You will work closely with sales, permitting, and installation teams to ensure every project is designed to the highest standards — on time and ready for permit submission.Key ResponsibilitiesCreate detailed CAD drawings and system layouts for residential solar PV installations, including roof plans, electrical single-line diagrams (SLDs), and 3D site modelsDesign systems using industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, Aurora Solar, Helioscope, or similar platformsReview site survey data, satellite imagery, and shading analysis to produce optimized system designsEnsure all designs comply with NEC, local AHJ requirements, utility interconnection standards, and HOA guidelinesPerform system sizing calculations including string sizing, inverter selection, and load analysisCollaborate with project managers, sales engineers, and installation crews to resolve design issues or field changesMaintain organized project files and documentation in the company's project management systemStay current with evolving solar technology, building codes, and utility requirementsSupport continuous improvement of design templates, workflows, and best practicesRequired Qualifications2+ years of experience in residential solar system design or a related engineering/drafting roleProficiency in AutoCAD and at least one solar design platform (Aurora Solar, Helioscope, PVWatts, or equivalent)Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), specifically Articles 690 and 705Understanding of roofing structures, load-bearing considerations, and racking/mounting systemsStrong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneouslyAbility to interpret site surveys, utility bills, and aerial imageryExcellent written and verbal communication skillsPreferred QualificationsAssociate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Drafting/Design Technology, or a related fieldFamiliarity with structural engineering principles as they relate to roof-mounted systemsExperience designing in Nevada, California, Arizona, or other high-solar marketsCompensation & BenefitsPerformance-based bonusesHealth, dental, and vision insurance401(k) with company matchPTO and paid holidaysOngoing training and professional development supportOpportunity for career advancement in a fast-growing industry
