Job Summary: - We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator / Database Engineer (DBA/DBE) to own and optimize FreightPOP's SQL Server environment hosted in AWS. - This role is responsible for ensuring the performance, security, reliability, scalability, and availability of our database infrastructure while supporting software development and business operations. - The ideal candidate combines strong database administration expertise with a proactive engineering mindset. - This individual will work closely with Development, Cloud Operations, and Product teams to optimize database performance, implement best practices, support application growth, and ensure database environments remain secure, resilient, and highly available. Key Responsibilities • Support day-to-day administration of SQL Server databases (production and QA) • Monitor database health, availability, and basic performance metrics • Assist in troubleshooting performance issues under senior guidance • Help maintain backups, restores, and basic disaster recovery procedures • Support indexing improvements and query optimization activities • Participate in database maintenance tasks (index rebuilds, statistics updates, job monitoring) • Collaborate with developers to resolve query and application-related database issues Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience) • 2–4 years of experience working with Microsoft SQL Server environments • Hands-on experience with T-SQL (queries, stored procedures, basic troubleshooting) • Understanding of relational database fundamentals (indexes, normalization, transactions, constraints) • Familiarity with basic performance troubleshooting concepts (slow queries, execution plans at a basic level) • Basic understanding of database security principles (users, roles, permissions, least privilege) • Awareness of high availability concepts (Always On, clustering, or replication – theoretical or limited hands-on experience) • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced SaaS environment Experience with T-SQL, stored procedures, database migrations, and schema management • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical teams
