- 🧠 About the role We’re looking for a Rust backend developer who enjoys building scalable APIs and experimenting with AI-powered developer tools. In this role, you’ll work hands-on designing REST and GraphQL services while actively testing AI models inside Cursor, collaborating closely with a research team to improve real-world coding workflows. This is a part-time, high-impact contractor role ideal for developers who are AI-curious, detail-oriented, and comfortable giving structured feedback. 🔧 What you’ll do - Design, develop, and optimize REST and GraphQL APIs using Rust. - Apply best practices for data validation, error handling, and API security. - Plan and execute database migrations, schema changes, and performance optimizations. - Test AI-powered coding models in Cursor, reporting bugs with logs, traces, and screenshots. - Participate in 4-day intensive testing bursts focused on real coding workflows. - Collaborate with AI researchers via Slack to discuss findings and propose improvements. - Submit post-burst surveys evaluating model quality and developer experience. ✅ Requirements - 3+ years of professional backend development experience. - Strong proficiency in Rust. - Experience building and maintaining RESTful and GraphQL APIs. - Solid understanding of backend validation, error handling, and security. - Experience with database migrations and schema design. - Regular use of AI tools for coding (Cursor is a strong plus). - Clear written communication and structured bug/incident reporting skills. - Comfortable working in fast-paced, confidential, remote environments. ⭐ Nice to have (not required) - Open-source contributions (GitHub projects, PRs, stars). - Experience evaluating experimental developer tools or workflows. - Strong interest in AI applied to software engineering.
