# 🛠 The role We're hiring an **AI Product Engineer** to build and improve the core systems powering Baltra. This is fundamentally an engineering role. You'll work across backend systems, AI agents, evaluation infrastructure, product flows, and production architecture. We don't want someone who waits for perfectly defined tickets. We want an engineer who can understand a problem, make good technical decisions, build quickly with AI tools, ship to production, and iterate based on real-world results. You'll have significant ownership over both implementation and technical direction. ### What you might work on Some of the first problems you could own include: - Building **eval frameworks and harnesses** for thousands of candidate conversations. - Reducing **token usage, latency, and inference costs** across our core AI systems. - Improving prompts, model selection, context management, and agent architecture. - Building new candidate flows that increase recruiting conversion. - Designing and shipping backend services, APIs, data pipelines, and internal tooling. - Improving the reliability, observability, and scalability of AI systems running in production. # 📌 What we're looking for We're primarily looking for engineers with **1–3 years of experience**, but exceptional new graduates with a strong track record of building and shipping software are encouraged to apply. - **Strong software engineering fundamentals** - You should be comfortable with backend engineering, APIs, databases, testing, debugging, production systems, and basic system design. - Our current stack includes Python, Flask, PostgreSQL, AWS, React, LLM APIs, and the WhatsApp API. - **Experience building AI applications:** you should understand how to build reliable applications using frontier models, including: - Evals and evaluation-driven development - Agentic workflows - Harnesses and verification loops - Prompt and context engineering - Model quality, latency, and cost tradeoffs - You do **not** need an ML degree or experience training models from scratch. - **Fluent with coding agents** - Coding agents should already be a core part of how you work. - We expect you to be highly proficient with tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or equivalent systems, and comfortable using them to plan, implement, debug, refactor, test, and ship substantial pieces of software. - **Strong engineering judgment** - You should be able to take an ambiguous technical problem, break it down, choose a sensible approach, and drive it through production without requiring detailed instructions at every step. ## The kind of person who thrives here **Hungry.** You want a steep learning curve and a lot of responsibility early in your career. **High-agency.** You solve problems rather than wait for instructions. **AI-native.** You're constantly improving how you build software using AI. **Technical.** You care deeply about how systems work and how to make them better. **A builder.** What you've shipped matters more to us than your job titles.
