Uptech, SaaS Start-up · Tolling Technology · Long-term engagement · Full Time · 100% Remote · Within 2 hours of US Eastern Time · Possible Benefits
Two things before anything else:
• We need near-expert command of Claude Code, and clear, professional spoken and written English. Both are non-negotiable. If either is a stretch, this isn't the right role, no exceptions.
• Our team uses Claude Code to do in 1-2 weeks what used to take 6 months. And it's not just fast prompting, we want someone who actively shapes the tool over time, teaching it your project's edge cases so it stops repeating the same mistake, not starting from scratch every session. If you're comfortable with AI but not operating at that level, this isn't the right fit.
About the Role
This is a long-term role, not a short engagement. We start with a contract period of up to 90 days, with the goal of converting to full-time once it's clearly working for both sides.
We're not hiring a tester. We're hiring the person who walks in, stands up our entire QA function, and becomes the authority on whether what we built is what we said we'd build. You own quality across the whole product (backend, APIs, data layer, web, and mobile) and the process, tooling, and standards behind it. No playbook to inherit, you build it.
We need someone who can zoom out to the strategy and zoom into the one broken query at 2am. Most QA people are strong at one. We need both.
You direct AI across the full testing lifecycle, test design, case generation, defect reproduction, log forensics, regression selection. You bring the judgment and the risk model. AI gives you the coverage of a small QA team.
About Uptech
Uptech is a technology company in the mobility space, rebuilding how fleets manage tolls and violations across the United States. Our founders invented this industry: they created the first rental car tolling programs, built the platform that managed over 4 million vehicles at its peak, and sold that company in 2018. Now we're building it again from scratch, on modern, AI-first technology, for fleets of every size.
We're an early-stage, fast-moving team spread across the Americas. Everything we ship goes to real customers, quickly.
How We Work
• AI-enhanced, not AI-dependent. Everyone here uses AI daily to move faster, and everyone understands their work deeply.
• Small team, real ownership. You'll work with everyone, including the founders, from day one. No bureaucracy, no layers.
• The details are the business. In our world, one wrong character in a license plate costs real money. We care about getting things right.
What You'll Do
• Design test strategy, test plans, and test cases that map cleanly to requirements
• Own test case management in a real tool (Qase, TestRail, Zephyr, or Xray), not a spreadsheet graveyard
• Drive requirements traceability end-to-end: every requirement maps to a test, every test maps to a result
• Manage defects like an investigator: reproduce reliably, isolate the cause, write it up so engineering can act immediately
• Test the hard layers, not just the happy path: API contracts, data integrity, mobile across devices, load and failure conditions
• Build automation where it actually earns its keep, not automation for its own sake
What We're Looking For
• 7+ years in QA/quality engineering, senior- or lead-level ownership of complex engagements. You were accountable for quality, not executing someone else's plan.
• Near-expert, daily use of Claude Code, fast enough to compress months of work into weeks, and you actively teach and shape it over time rather than just prompting it fresh each time. Vague answers or hesitant use are an instant no here.
• Deep command of QA methodology: test strategy, test plans, coverage analysis, risk-based testing, defect lifecycle, traceability.
• Real test-management tooling experience (Qase, TestRail, Zephyr, or Xray), structured from scratch.
• Cross-layer testing: APIs, backend, databases, web, and mobile.
• Clear, professional written and spoken English, strong enough to translate quality risk into business language for the C-suite.
• Self-starter. No spec, no manager, no permission needed to get moving.
On the Tech Stack
We don't care what stack you've tested before. We care that you can get to verified, trustworthy results in any environment, with AI as your force multiplier. Strong QA judgment and Claude Code fluency transfer. Syntax doesn't matter.

Why Join Now
We're at the beginning. . The platform is being built now, and the work you do this year becomes the foundation of everything after. The people leading this company built the industry's defining platform once and are doing it again.
• Own it, not inherit it. There's no broken process waiting for you to fix. You set up the quality function from zero, and it becomes the company's standard.
• A real, durable industry. Tolling is infrastructure-grade. The work matters and it lasts.
• A real voice, not just a seat. Direct line to the C-suite. Your quality judgment shapes what ships and when, not a committee's.
• Modern stack, no legacy baggage. AI-first workflow, no flaky decade-old suite to babysit.
• Real leverage. Get this right, and you lead the QA function as it grows.
Uptech is an equal opportunity employer. We consider qualified applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, or veteran status.
