## About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced **Staff Java Full-Stack Engineer based in Latin America** to join Smarter Consulting and work with our U.S.-based team and clients.
This is a hands-on senior engineering role. We need someone who is strong technically, still enjoys writing production code, and is comfortable taking ownership of difficult engineering problems from design through delivery.
You won’t just be picking up tickets. We’re looking for someone who can understand the bigger picture, make sound technical decisions, communicate tradeoffs clearly, and help other engineers do their best work.
## What You'll Do
* Build and maintain backend applications using **Java and Spring Boot**
* Develop modern frontend applications using **React, Angular, or similar technologies**
* Design and build REST APIs, services, integrations, and database solutions
* Work across both backend and frontend development
* Make architecture and system design decisions
* Troubleshoot difficult production and performance issues
* Improve application scalability, reliability, and maintainability
* Write clean, well-tested production code
* Review code and provide technical guidance to other engineers
* Work directly with technical and business stakeholders
* Help improve engineering practices, testing, CI/CD, and deployment processes
## What We're Looking For
* **7+ years of professional software development experience**
* Strong hands-on experience with **Java**
* Strong professional experience with **Spring Boot / Spring**
* Strong full-stack web development experience
* Experience with **React, Angular, or another modern frontend framework**
* Strong JavaScript and/or TypeScript skills
* Experience designing and building REST APIs
* Strong SQL and relational database experience
* Good understanding of application architecture and system design
* Experience building and supporting production applications
* Experience with Git, automated testing, and CI/CD
* Experience reviewing code and helping other engineers
* Strong debugging and problem-solving skills
* Strong written and spoken English
* Currently based in **Latin America**
* Able to collaborate effectively with a U.S.-based remote team
## Nice to Have
* AWS, Azure, or GCP
* Docker
* Kubernetes
* PostgreSQL
* Kafka or other messaging technologies
* Microservices and distributed systems
* React + TypeScript
* Cloud architecture experience
* DevOps or infrastructure experience
* Previous consulting or client-facing experience
* Experience mentoring senior engineers or acting as a technical lead

**100% Remote — Latin America**

You should be comfortable having reasonable working-hour overlap with our U.S.-based team.
