ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY: Kruze Consulting is a boutique CPA firm that provides accounting, bookkeeping, finance, payroll, and tax services to over 750 startups backed by top tier venture capital funds. The Controller will work in a multi-client environment supporting 15 to 20 startup clients in a variety of exciting industries. They will be tasked with planning, directing, coordinating, and executing all aspects of the financial management, accounting, and consulting processes to serve our startup clients. We’re looking for someone with expertise in full-cycle accounting, month-end close, financial analysis, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will have great time management skills, be very detail-oriented, and possess strong analytical thinking. Kruze Consulting has a proven track record of developing their employees to their highest potential. At Kruze, you’ll have the opportunity to learn multiple disciplines and work with a wide variety of high-visibility clients and find your passion.NEED TO HAVE/POSITION REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting required8+ years of corporate accounting experienceAccounting experience in a multi-client environmentStrong knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principlesAdvanced knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting best practices, U.S. GAAP, laws, standards, and state/national regulationsSolid experience with QuickBooks Online (certification a plus)Advanced proficiency with spreadsheet software (MS Excel and Google Sheets)Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skillsMust be willing to work core business hours in their local time zone (approximately 8am to 5pm local time)Meticulous attention to detail – able to follow through/execute on a high volume of nuanced tasksAbility to work with a strong sense of urgency in a fast-paced setting with a wide variety of tasksA love of rapidly changing technology/software solutions that maximize efficiency and deliver firmwide valueNICE TO HAVE/POSITION PREFERENCES: · Licensed CPA or progress towards/eligible to sit for the CPA exam · Master’s degree in Accounting · Experience in a fully remote people-centric culture · Experience in a high growth/startup/entrepreneurial environment · Experience in SaaS accounting, startup equity accounting, and/or startup revenue accounting · Experience with tech-forward accounting platforms such as Expensify, Bill.com, Stripe, and Gusto · Experience with newer systems/platforms such as Slack, Salesforce, 1Password, Airtable, Box, Kantata, Stripe, and many others (we are always exploring and embracing new systems as part of our DNA!)WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:Financial Reporting and Analysis (65% of the time)Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statementsGenerate accurate and comprehensive financial reports for management and stakeholdersReview and evaluate the work of other accounting staff working on the same clientMaintain the integrity of the general ledger by recording, reconciling, and analyzing transactions, as well as having primary responsibility for final sign off on the ledgerAnalyzing financial information and summarizing financial statusBuild and maintain strong relationships with clients, acting as their primary point of contact for financial mattersProvide due diligence support to clients for audits, fundraising, and M&A activitiesMonitor, analyze, and report on key financial metrics, trends, and variancesProvide client management with accurate and timely financial information for decision-makingConduct financial analysis to support client business initiatives, investment decisions, and cost optimization effortsProvide financial insights and recommendations to client management to support strategic planning and decision-makingOther Billable-Related Work (10% of the time)Perform ad hoc assignments as requested pertaining to client needsCreate and implement client-specific procedures that help maintain the accuracy of monthly financialsSupporting the Kruze Tax Team for State and Local compliance, Sales and Use Tax Reporting, year-end books for tax preparationMentor and Coach Junior Accounting Staff (10% of the time)Connect and collaborate with people and develop trusting relationships virtuallyReview, evaluate, and provide feedback to junior accounting staff regarding the quality of their workCollaborate with Quality Assurance as needed to facilitate the development of junior staffCommunicate effectively with proper tone, expectation setting, and contingencies managementCompliance (5% of the time)Stay informed and current with bookkeeping, tax filing, HR standards, and other related government regulationsComply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by maintaining compliance documentation for each clientAssessing internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areasAdministrative (5% of the time)Submitting, approving, and tracking maintenance projectsReview and invoice clients for time spent on special consulting projectsMonitor billable hours between different clientsOther (5% of the time)Required training and internal meetingsWHAT YOU WON’T BE DOING: · Client onboarding – we have a team that sets up and onboards all of our new clients · Tax accounting – we have a tax team that is responsible for all tax filings/activities (including state and local use tax as well as sales tax)A note of caution about remote work at Kruze Consulting: While it seems cool, it’s not for everyone.
