Requirements and responsibilities

About the roleFundrise is a financial technology company on a mission to build a better financial system for the individual. With more than 2 million users and over $3 billion in assets under management, we’re the largest direct-to-investor alternative asset platform in the United States, making institutional-quality real estate, private credit, and venture capital investments accessible to anyone. Through the software we build, we’re democratizing the private investment industry. We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help evolve our investment screening and fraud prevention platform. You’ll work at the intersection of compliance, risk, and automation, building systems that make accurate, reliable screening decisions at scale. Success requires strong judgment, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to turn nuanced operational and compliance requirements into effective software. You’ll collaborate closely with partners across Operations, Legal, Product, and Finance to understand requirements, evaluate tradeoffs, and deliver solutions that strengthen both user experience and risk controls. This is a high-impact role where your work directly protects millions of users and shapes how we scale trust across the platform.Who You AreYou’re motivated by solving real problems, not by chasing the newest framework or forcing a particular architecture. You make pragmatic technology choices that fit the problem and the business needs. You bring strong judgment and clear opinions, while remaining open to other ideas. You see evolving and refactoring an established, high-stakes codebase as a meaningful engineering challenge. You partner closely with Legal, Finance, and Operations as an essential part of the engineering work. You’d rather ship a practical solution that works than over-engineer one that looks impressive on a whiteboard.Candidates motivated primarily by novelty in tools or architecture, rather than delivering reliable systems that meet business needs, are unlikely to be a fit.ResponsibilitiesDesign and build practical enhancements to our investment screening and fraud prevention platform, including decisioning systems and integrations with third-party data providers.Own the end-to-end software development lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing, and production support.Make pragmatic tradeoffs and incorporate stakeholder feedback to deliver reliable, compliant solutions without unnecessary complexity.Maintain, monitor, and improve systems and infrastructure deployed on AWS.Partner closely with Operations, Legal, Product, and Finance to translate screening and compliance requirements into effective software solutions.Review pull requests and contribute to a culture of high-quality, maintainable, and pragmatic engineering.Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.5+ years of professional software engineering experience in Java, Spring, and Hibernate.4+ years of experience building and maintaining production applications on AWS, including services such as EC2, ECS, CDK, S3, SQS, Lambda, and DynamoDB.3+ years of experience with SQL and relational databases, where transactions and throughput were critical to operations.Experience making significant contributions to designing, building, and maintaining distributed systems to ensure scalability, reliability, and fault tolerance.Experience improving existing systems and workflows in operationally complex environments, not just building greenfield systems from scratch.Experience using AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, or Gemini CLI in day-to-day development workflows.Demonstrated track record of effective communication and collaboration with business stakeholders.Ability to quickly absorb and understand large and complex new domains and workflows.Preferred QualificationsExperience in fintech, fraud detection, risk, compliance, or a similarly regulated domain.Experience integrating with third-party identity verification, KYC/AML, or financial data providers.Benefits at FundriseRemote-first work environment (must live in the United States).Competitive medical, dental, and vision insurance—Fundrise contributes to both employee and dependent premiums.Flexible Spending Accounts for medical expenses, dependent care, and parking.401(k) with 3% contributed by Fundrise, regardless of whether you are actively contributing yourself.Fully covered life insurance and short-term disability.Significant equity via our employee stock grant program.Gympass benefit including mental health resources.Flexible PTO.Employee Assistance Program.Paid parental leave.Compensation$153,000 - $183,000 a year
